Lyon County Fish Reports

Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Fishing was spectacular over the weekend. The state and county both stocked 1,000 pounds of rainbows. Bob Angel of Novato caught a 4.5 pound (22-inch) rainbow on a nightcrawler, Devon Rackle of San Jose caught a 3.5 pound rainbow on a Panther/Martin lure and Art Shallock of Novato caught a 3.5 pound rainbow on

Girish Pandit, Production/Operations Manager for the Nevada Appeal, caught 4 rainbows on Saturday and another 4 on Sunday. He was using a small white plastic grub with a tail.

Dave Kirby: On Sunday, Julian Martin of Carson City caught a 5-pound rainbow on a No. 16 Scud fly.

Dave Kirby: There are lots of fish, right now, and not a lot of fishermen. I saw plenty of fish in the holes on Saturday afternoon. There will be a plant of big fish on Wednesday, June 6, by Alpine County. Those large rainbows come from that private hatchery up by Susanville.

Last Thursday, Don Hettrick of Carson City, Rich Bachle of Fernley and I spent the morning fishing at Lahontan Reservoir in "Don H's" boat. And, as is typically the case whenever the three of us fish together, it is a memorable experience. Last week was no exception. Don H and I met Rich at the North Boat Ramp at 7 a.m. and our adventures began

Don Hettrick and Don Quilici of Carson City plus Rich Bachle of Fernley trolled last Thursday morning. They caught and released more than 100 White Bass, 4 Sacramento Perch, 1 Walleye and 1 Carp. They were using flasher blades with various lures that resembled small fish.

Fort Churchill ponds have been fishing well for catfish and Bass. Rubber baits such as root beer colored lizards have been working for the bass.

Gene St. Denis of South Lake Tahoe: My son, Eric, 12 years old, and his mom (Barbara) fished in the Hope Valley. Eric caught three planters, and one of them was 5 pounds. ?Į

Dave Kirby: The river had a plant of 1,000 pounds of rainbows on Wednesday by Alpine County. There were lots of people at every hole where they planted. Those holes are probably fished out by now.

Renie Busey of Douglas caught two 3.2 pound rainbows over the weekend.

Missy at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): I'm estimating that there were 20,000 people. There were huge crowds everywhere. Lots of people were fishing and the fishing was awesome, especially on Monday. Lots of Wipers. There was a Channel Catfish over 30 inches long and a Largemouth Bass that was 2.5 pounds.

Fishing has picked up. A 6.5 pound rainbow on a nightcrawler.

Missy at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): We are estimating 25,000 to 40,000 people will be out here over the holiday weekend.
