Rainy Weather!

by MATT KOLES
Fall fishing on the Truckee River with the rainy weather.  Pretty much went from Summer to Fall in a few days. I'm sure it will warm back up, but the afternoons in the 80's look to be behind us.  Trouts are still on crayfish, and stoneflies for the anchor. Smaller mayflies on point.  Streamer fishing will start to get going. Got a few lately, but it will only

The Truckee is fishing excellent!

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Current Water Conditions The Truckee is fishing excellent right now, with flows steady at 296 CFS out of Tahoe City, 320 CFS through town, and 503 CFS at Farad. The water is clear, cold, and running strong. The canyon stretch is the place to be, especially early in the day before the sun gets high. Weekday mornings are quiet with little angling pressure.

The Truckee ran dirty

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee River ran dirty for a few days after a couple thunderstorms last week laid down significant amounts of rain in very short periods. This caused some mudslides in certain areas, reshaped a few runs from newly laid sediment, and downed a few new trees into the river. As you can imagine, this has also caused some turbidity in the river, especially as it

Pyramid Lake 2025 Fall early Winter Forecast

by PYRAMID LAKE FLY FISHING
Pyramid will again open to fishing on October 1st. A tradition held by local anglers for many years. The Lore of the World’s Largest Cutthroat Trout attracts attention from all over the world these days and we are excited to see what this season has to offer. We had an amazing summer. Near or even below normal air temperatures for much of the hot part of

That's a wrap for summer on the Truckee!

by MATT KOLES
That's a wrap for Summer on the Truckee River.  The kids are back in school, and the last of the burners leaving town, good riddance. Should probably be pretty mellow in town and on the river here on out.  Not at all hot, stark contrast to some late Summers we've had in the past. No smoke, and no fires either. Flows have also remained very good.  Fishing has

Fishing is strong

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Fishing is strong across the lake for anglers targeting the right depths. Surface temps are mid-60s°F. Mackinaw are holding 80–140 feet down near the Cal Neva Hole and South Lake, hitting jigged minnows and trolled plugs, with plugs producing larger fish. Kokanee are active around Baldwin Beach at 70 feet, averaging 13–20 inches. Big browns are cruising around 100 feet and taking Rapalas. Early mornings

The Truckee is fishing really well!

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Current Water Conditions The Truckee River is fishing really well this week, especially for anglers who hit the water before the crowds roll in. Flows are steady and healthy—303 CFS at Tahoe City, 335 CFS through Truckee, and 514 CFS at Farad—making the canyon stretch particularly productive. Mornings have been cool, trout are feeding hard, and water clarity is excellent. Thanks to these cooler mornings and

Beautiful sunny days are expected!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The daily thunderstorms kept us a bit on our toes this week. We saw an overall dip in water temp, but they were certainly all over the place and still warmer than expected. Most of the days the rain did little to change flows on the Truckee. Other days, we saw a huge short-lived spike from very localized rain events, which even caused mudslides on

The fishing has been good for Kokanees in the early morning

by DOUG BUSEY
The fishing has been good for Kokanees from early  6am to about 9am near the Taylor Creek area. The Mackinaw bite has been slow, but you can see them suspended in many areas. They just have lockjaw right now. I personally like to use an F9 or F11 in a black and silver or a vampire pattern. There have been a couple nice macs caught

The lake has risen a little due to rain runoff from the Walker river

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake has risen a little due to rain runoff from the Walker river. The fishing has been fair to good. The south end is cloudy, but should settle down soon. Good friend of mine Geary Ness from Minden Nv has been fishing with me for years. He told me he has never caught a bass in Topaz. But I can tell you, he has

Good time to go fishing

by MATT KOLES
Smooth sailing now. We're just getting over the last heat wave on the Truckee River. 70's all next week, not bad. Soon we'll have some Fall fishing.  For now think smaller size crayfish, smaller mayflies, and caddis. Trouts are still in faster water-so fish the appropriate rigs. Tight line nymphing/ Euro, will be your best bet.  Around 500 cfs here in Hirschdale. Not a bad flow for

Flows remain good!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
It’s certainly surprising to see the flows remain this good as we head into September. At 300 CFS along the upper river and 500 down in the canyon, we are still seeing most of the river accessible by boat, and the walk and wade fishing is all time. If flows do drop any further however, floating will become limited.  The cooler days over the last week

Fishing remains strong

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Fishing remains strong across Lake Tahoe for those targeting the right areas and getting out early. Surface temps are in the mid-60s°F. Lake trout are holding around 80–140 feet near the Cal Neva Hole and in South Lake, biting on jigged minnows and trolled plugs. Trolling plugs seems to be producing the larger fish. Kokanee are biting well near the Baldwin Beach area around 70

The Truckee is fishing excellent!

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Current Water Conditions The Truckee is fishing excellent this week, especially for anglers who beat the crowds in the early mornings. Flows remain steady and healthy—around 300 CFS at Tahoe City, 335 CFS through Truckee, and just under 543 CFS at Farad—keeping the canyon stretch in perfect shape. Mornings are crisp, trout are active, and water clarity is ideal. With warmer temps expected this weekend, keep

Lake Tahoe Grand Slam

by ROBERT VARIK
On our last trip, we landed a 10-pound Lake Trout and a 5-pound Brown Trout. We also brought in 2 Rainbows and 2 Kokanee. Fishing is still going strong as we head toward the end of summer. For more information, visit TahoeTrophyTrout.com or call/text 530-318-0791.

Fishing is Consistently Good!

by MATT KOLES
Looks like the heat wave is on the way out. Hasn't been that hot of a Summer on the Truckee River. In fact, California experienced it's coldest Summer in 30 years.  The fishing has been consistently good. Good if you know and can find the proper water to fish this time of year. Helps if you can wade decently. Trouts are in current and you have

Excellent Conditions!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
All said and done, the year-to-date conditions on the Truckee were some of the best we’ve ever seen. Ample water after a series of good winters, cooler than average air temps, no nearby fires (knock on wood), and a very healthy trout fishery. We are hopeful that these excellent conditions are going to continue into the fall, which is often considered to be one of

Kokanee fishing is picking up down in the south

by DOUG BUSEY
Kokanee fishing is picking up down in the south. Mackinaw has been fair with minnows and blades. Fishing the rock piles. Cal Neva is loaded with mackinaw but they won’t eat. Maybe more interested in spawning?  There have been a lot of eggs in the fish that have been filleted. Early morning is the best chance at catching anything big. As soon as the sun's

The lake lavel is going down and the boat launch is getting low

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake lavel is going down and the boat launch is getting low. Keep an eye on your depth finder so as not to bottom out. On the far south end you will see some wills in the lake. Stay to the north as much as possible. Fishing has still been productive for those early morning risers. When the sun does come up, that is

Fishing remains strong

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS

Kokanee are biting well in South Lake around 120 feet on bright spoons and hoochies. Rainbows and browns are cruising near creek mouths, with trout fishing best at first light or late evening while trolling 30–40 feet along the

The Truckee is in prime shape

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Current Water Conditions The Truckee is in prime shape this week, especially for anglers willing to hit the water before the midday heat. Crisp mornings are delivering hungry trout and ideal conditions. Flows are holding steady at 301 CFS out of Tahoe City, 335 CFS through Truckee, and 549 CFS at Farad—perfect for both wading and floating. The canyon is fishing especially well with nearly perfect

Fly Fishing Report | Truckee River | early August

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River flow has dropped since our last report but remains fishing well. The Reno gauge is about 350CFS. This is a typical drop for this time of year as the Water Master is adjusting for seasonal conditions and lower demands. The trout are still feeding in fast moving water. Drop shot techniques have been very effective to get your flies near the bottom quickly.

Still no excessive heat

by MATT KOLES
Still no excessive heat on the Truckee River. It's gonna get a bit hot next weekend and beyond, but still no 90's for Truckee. Hot in Reno, but it could be way hotter.  Nice and cool in the mornings, (that's when you want to be out anyway) Warm in the afternoons.  Flows have dropped to about 525 cfs, here in Hirschdale- 400 cfs at Mogul on the
