Can You Still Catch and Release Macks After Catching a Limit?

by CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FISH & WILDLIFE
Question:  When fishing for mackinaw trout on Lake Tahoe, how is it legal to clearly video yourself catching six fish but then giving them away to your buddies? The limit for macks is two fish, but in this video the person keeps one on the stringer and then gives the rest away to his buddies until they all have limits together. I am assuming that if he’s posting

Good Solid Fishing on The Truckee

by MATT KOLES
Good solid fishing on the Truckee River. Some rain and snow this last weekend, ugh. I guess by this weekend it will be nice again. Flows have dropped to under 3000 k. About 2,700 here in the Hirsch. Little lower through Reno and about 3000 k through the Conservancy. They were 1000 cfs higher last week. Flows haven’t been this low in months, and it’s still big. Crazy,

Second Trip For Today

by MIKE NIELSEN
Well the second trip was a grind for 5 fish. Little rainbow and brown then nice couple macs. Payed my taxes with lost tackle but simply part of game. Not sure if wind burn face hurts more than sunburn but I feel it! Great job team Norton.

All Browns nothing huge but all but one dink were just nice 3-6 lb fish. Had one break line but didn’t think it was huge just got into structure! Most

2 Weeks Left In The Season

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
As the fish now remain in shallow water and paired up for spawn this can be a very fun but also frustrating time to fish here as you can see them but they can be very tight lipped. Please avoid targeting actively spawning fish here so they can eventually establish a self-sustaining population. Best fishing during mornings and evenings as it warms to the mid

Truckee is Running High and Clear

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
As anticipated, the Truckee River is still running high. However, most of the water is coming from dam releases making the river run clear. The main game is still mostly nymphing or tossing streamers. With the continuing large water, big “attractor” nymphs like rubberlegs or worms have been best. Pheasant tails in a size 12-14 also do a good job imitating the march browns. Streamers

Nice Big Spring Flows

by MATT KOLES
Great last week on the Truckee River. We had a great clinic this weekend. Look for some more in the future. Nice big spring flows. Flows have dropped just a bit the last few days. Mainly it’s just what they’re doing with the reservoirs, not so much the run off that’s making the flows. If you noticed Boca is low as they are working on the dam. Yeah,
