Western Nevada Fish Reports

Great day, caught 14 pretty quickly, kept the ones we wanted then later during cleaning we got about a 8 lber that actually broke off but ended up in the other line and we got it but was ridiculous mess. Just tossed it back without photo!

Every summer NDOW staff and volunteers head to western Nevada's beautiful Marlette Lake for the annual Marlette Lake Broodstock Spawning Project. The eggs we get from this project provide our fish hatcheries with most of the trout we stock in waters across the state. With flows steadily dropping in the upper river the lower river (Glenshire Dr. to Stateline) is now fishing best. Great hatches coming off throughout the day with the most predictable of these being caddis in the late evening. Truckee River  Through the downtown gauge, the Truckee River has been holding steady around 450 CFS.  This is perfect flows in my opinion. Wading is easier, and the river really starts to show off its details as the water level settles into the deeper channels of the channel. Pocket water, and shallow riffled water will hold feeding fish, as fish who are resting will seek out

Nice in the a.m., windy and hot in the afternoons. Good again right before dark. Pretty much like this every summer. Flows are average now, fishing is too. Congratulations to Brenden Burnham on his record breaking Mirror Carp caught out of Virginia Lake in Reno, NV on June 22, 2019! The fish weighed in at 27 lbs and 38 inches long.

Got tomorrow open if anyone is interested. Bite was wide open this morning! About and hour to get these then went looking for bows and got more macs and bows.

Today’s Raid! Got em quick then looked for bows but only had one on that came off. Lots of lost fish today! Water temps are still 7-10 degrees cooler along with air temps making the fishing different each day but if you want em you can get em.

July 4th has come and gone.  It’s officially summer in Tahoe. Go in Safeway in Truckee and you’ll see why. Flows are perfect on the Truckee River. There was lots of folks on the river this last week. Guides, anglers, floaters. All the weekend warriors were out. Nice thing, you can still find solitude as they’re lots and lots of river miles to get away from people.

Few here few there. With intense boat traffic and fishing pressure the bites come different each day!
