Current Water Conditions The Truckee River is in excellent shape as we move into the third week of June. Flows are holding steady and fishable across the system: ~75 CFS out of Tahoe City, ~230 CFS through Truckee, and ~1,100 CFS near Farad. Very good fly fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Very good fly fishing on the Truckee River. Flows are high, temps are cool, and fish are active.  This is how it should be in June. Not that hot, bigger flows, and happy fish. We'll get our heat, and the flows will drop, and you'll need to stop fishing when the water temps get warm, but right now, ain't none of that. Nymphng will get them always,

It’s hard to beat the fishing on the Truckee this time of year!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
While it’s always hard to pinpoint it exactly, when asked what the best time to fish the Truckee is, we will often reply the month of June. With the average winter we’ve had this year combined with the two previous years of above average precipitation, this June is really shaping up to live up to our title as the best month to fish our river.  While

Deep trolling remains highly productive

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Pyramid Lake’s season ends June 30, and deep trolling remains highly productive for large Lahontan cutthroat. Anglers are finding success at 70–90 feet using orange flatfish, spoons, and chartreuse jigs around Warrior Point, Monument Rock, and Hell’s Kitchen. Early mornings offer the best bite before winds pick up, especially for those using leadcore lines or downriggers. Shore fishing remains slow due to warming water and

The water is warming fast in the shallows and on the surface

by PYRAMID LAKE FLY FISHING
If ever the word perfect needed a place this, is it. You cannot ask for anything more. The conditions are exactly like we talk about, and the fishing is as one of our clients stated, W.F.O. At Pyramid just like other fisheries, that does not mean that the fish eat all day every day. You have to be there when it happens. The techniques are specific

All time good on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
All time good on the Truckee River.  Flows are healthy, water temps are perfect, and trouts are happy.  It's that window of time on the river when you don't have to wok for them as hard as usual.  Every bug is hatching, and nymphing with any generic nymph should probably work. This week we should see Green Drakes. Green Drakes is one of the biggest mayflies in the

The entire Truckee is fishing well

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The entire Truckee river is fishing well right now, from Highway 89 all the way down through Reno! With minimal releases out of Lake Tahoe still, the uppermost sections of the Truckee will be a bit low and slow, but by the time you get down past the resorts, you will start to see much more good fishable water. Up here the opportunities for dry

Pyramid Lake’s season is winding down

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Pyramid Lake’s season is winding down, but fishing remains hot in deeper water. Trolling with a boat in 60–90 feet with orange flatfish or spoons around Warrior Point, Monument, and Hell’s Kitchen is producing quality Lahontan cutthroat. Focus on early morning deep trolling for the best results. Anglers using float tubes should be mindful with the wind in the afternoons. The lake closes on June

The Truckee River is flowing between 800-950cfs at the Reno gauge

Perfect time on the Truckee River!

by MATT KOLES
That perfect time on the Truckee River. We get that golden window every year right around now. We'll see how long it lasts, but if the flows and the water temps stay like this, it should stay good, and when I say good, I mean good.  Big fish, small fish ,they're all eating. Eating? Well, any bug that swims is hatching. Golden stones, caddis, pmd. Look

Pyramid Lake 2024-2025 season wrap-up

by RENO FLY SHOP
While the Pyramid Lake season is officially open until the end of June we begin to wrapup our shore fishing around the middle/end of May. There is still some great fish to be caught with the approach usually across the lake or in the more difficult to reach depths. Warm days on the Truckee

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The warm days on the Truckee have made flows trend upwards, but not really to the point of it hindering the fishing. In fact, as mentioned above, the weather has made the bugs go nuts, and we are getting more topwater eats this week than we have in the last few months. The most exciting of these newly emerging bugs, in our opinion, is the
