Western Nevada Fish Reports

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing is starting to slow down. Trout were holding at 20 plus foot depth but downriggers were moderately successful during July, lake stratification will get worse during August and trout will be squeezed down until temps cool in the Fall. No bass reports but fishing should be good if you can get a boat out. (county ramp is closed, launching from the beach near the

Spooner Lake Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The weed bed continues to be a problem around Spooner Lake. If anglers do find an opening they should have some success. A watercraft such as a float tube or kayak is the key to unlocking this lake’s hold on fishing. Fly anglers have had luck using black, brown, and green wooly buggers. If you are fly fishing, a floating line this time of year

Truckee Canal Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The Truckee's current flow in Reno is 263 cfs. The flows on the river are some of the best we’ve seen in the last 4 years. August is a tough month for fishing, but we’ve been getting some great reports from anglers that know how to fish the Truckee. Fish exceeding the 20 inch mark are not that uncommon. Fly fisherman can have success nymphing

Lahontan Reservoir Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Lahontan, despite the low water (or maybe because of it) the fishing has been pretty good for catfish. Water levels are approximately 36,000 acre feet. The best fishing has been by the dam where the Truckee canal dumps in. All state parks boat launches are closed and beach launching is difficult due to muddy banks.

Mason Valley, bass fishing has been good at North pond, float tubes and kayaks are needed to get into the open channels where anglers can access the fish. Trout fishing has been slow to nonexistent lately with the hot temperatures.

Truckee River Fishing Report

by MATT KOLES
The Truckee River has been fishing very good thanks in part to cool fall temperatures and a spike in flows out of Prosser last week. Things were getting pretty boney on the river, but flows ain’t that bad right now. Fishing in the lower flows is a lot easier on people as you can wade and cross the river is most spots. Been doing a

Lake Tahoe Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
Fishing has been good for mackinaw. Best action has been off the Tahoe shelf out of Tahoe City or Carnelian Bay to Cal/Neva Point. Star out early morning in 120 feet and move out to 180 feet as the sun comes up. By 9;30 the bite will dropped off dramatically. Blades or flashers with a live minnow has been most productive. Many limits have come

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
A sad day for many anglers because Topaz Lake closes to fishing on October 1st. If you can get out on the last day, I would suggest to fish the south end with Rapalas or a #2 Needle fish lure. I fished last week with a friend and we worked hard and caught 3 fish each with the largest coming in a t 18.5 inches

Early Fly Fishing Season At Pyramid Lake

by RENO FLY SHOP
This is the time that most of us have been looking forward to since early July. Pyramid Lake is finally getting ready to open! It seems like the Reno Fly Shop 2015-16 season wrap up was just upon us but when it comes to catching these fish there is never enough time to truly understand and appreciate this desert oasis. Luckily for us, the lake is
