Western Nevada Fish Reports

CLOSES SEPTEMBER 30th..... Topaz Lake is still good for …. bass. Trout have gone a bit deep, The bass will certainly hit 'big uglies', buggers, dead drift cray fish. Cooler temps , the carp are harder to find FYI the canal temps were at 70 degrees coming out of the lake. Not good for

The NDOW stocked fish are still hanging there, that will be nice when the cottonwoods turn yellow and we can do some fall fishing down there. In the early morning go for a dry dropper set up of a caddis (Elk Hair) with a zebra midge (black) drop. Mid-day, if the fish will play, throw a bugger in a size 8 – size

A PERSONAL NOTE: catch a chub, KILL IT.. This lake has become so over populated with chub, that the trout there are competing for food. Not much has changed since last week's report: Damsels, zebra midges, copper johns, PT's buggers in white, olive, zug bugs, princes. If you see lips: Para Adams, Trico. Just want to catch ANY fish (chub)

Flows 105 cfs. If doing C & R in that area:PT's Hare's ear, stone, Micro Mayfly, san juans. Dries: Stimi's in yellow, hoppers, PMD's.

FYI: Hoye Canyon is NO LONGER open to the public. Only fishing on the West Walker Nevada access is WILSON CANYON on Hwy 208 south of Yerington. Copper johns in red or black, PT’s, San Juans, prince nymphs. Certainly can try a dry like a small hopper or EHC.

A bit cooler water at this little creek, since it doesn't get the hot afternoon sun. Buggers, hoppers, ants, caddis, little yellow stones.

Cool nights down there, and really, it's just so nice down there in this time of year. Fishing has been fair for those that work for it. I fished with friend Tom last week and we trolled Rapals and Needlefish for 6 hours. We were rewarded with 2 rainbows each ranging 15 to 19 inches. On the weekends the water skiers and jet skiers will be out by about 10am so hold on to your life vest. Some are not so courteous

Low flows through Glenshire to Boca outflow and good flows and better temps from Boca to Stateline. With the current flows concentrate your efforts in the deeper pools in the AM, move into the faster seams and riffles into the afternoon and then back into the pools in the evening when trout are feeding on the surface for Yellow Sallies, Caddis, and PED's. (GENERAL REG SECTION FROM TAHOE CITY TO TROUT CREEK) Fishing well as one will concentrate on the stretch between Alpine and the town of Truckee. Some nice trout being caught here as this area has seen a influx of fish from downriver.

We'd still recommend you try, using a pair of dykes and cut the hook off completely.. go out see what will hit your fly.. pull it out of their mouth,, no harm, no foul and they won't be stressed from fighting in warm water!
