Hinkson Slough is back! – After two years of repairs and rehabilitation, Hinkson Slough is healthy and fishing very well. NDOW Angler Education joined Project Healing Waters and the High Sierra Fly Casters to celebrate the opener and Hinkson didn’t disappoint! The annual event was free and open to anyone and everyone. Rain and snow! Yes, we need it. Every Winter is finger nail bitting on the Truckee River.  Look for the river to come up, how much? Well, probably not as much as you think. It's 400 cfs right now in Hirschale and going up. She'll come up lots more, but next week the rain will turn to snow, so it should drop back down quick.  Usually the best

Cold weekend on the the Truckee River. Brrr. Better for football watching than fishing.  Things look to warm up this week, and fingers crossed some rain and snow in the mix. We need to get that rain and snow. Keeps the fishing good through Summer, and will get it going now, Winter. We have the blue wing olives coming off now down on the lower Truckee River East

Sunny days are here and then sunny days are gone. If anyone has followed or researched fishing Pyramid Lake they knows that this time of year that wind + clouds at Pyramid Lake can make the fish party like it’s 1999. Butttt…….. The lake level  is slowly rising at about 3-6 inches a week. The Douglas County boat ramp is open and has only the middle dock in right now. Use a little patience and courtesy launching and coming back in. Shore angling was slow this last week. Most anglers were fishing the south end with powerbait or night crawlers. Haven’t really talked to anyone who’s been hitting up the Rosachi, or the Sceirine lately, so I don’t really have much to report. If you’re heading down there I would expect the best time of the day to be from about 10am to 3pm or so because of the colder temperatures. Cold nights, warm afternoons on the Truckee River. Upper teens in Truckee at night, 40's in the afternoons. Lets look at that.. When it's really cold at night, that's really going to lower the water temps. That will put the fish in the very slow water, frog water as we like to say. You will have to poke them in the nose with your flies. I would
