South Shore Lake Tahoe Fish Report 07-26-07

Gene St. Denis: I've been fishing 50-200 feet deep at Ski Run Shelf, Camp Richardson and the Tahoe Keys. Trolling with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and minnows. Bouncing off the bottom in a serpentine pattern. Macks are 2-7 pounds.

Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Sunday, it was about 85 degrees with a nice breeze. On the 18th, Lucas and Ray Taroli of Oregon used Salmon eggs and nightcrawlers to catch 7 rainbows that totaled 20 pounds. On the 19th, a youngster, "Junior," used Salmon eggs to catch 4 rainbows. Brian Arline of Roseville caught a 4.8 pound rainbow

Fly fishing remains very good on the Truckee. The flows remain perfect from the Town of Truckee down toReno. The best times to fish are in the mornings before it gets hot and then again the last hour or two before dark. In the mornings, nymphing has been the best. Reports have been outstanding. 20 to 50 fish days are not uncommon for those who frequent Knott Creek. Indicator Nymphing with size 18 midges is working well but the Damsel hatch has been the draw. Fish Damsel nymphs right under the surface with a slow strip and a floating line. Mornings have been best.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) will be conducting a free, trout fishing clinic on the Truckee River on Saturday, July 28. Elmer Bull of Yerington reported he and his family had fairly good action on Saturday afternoon at Beach No. 6 with live minnows and worms, dragged slowly along the bottom. They caught some walleye, a 12-inch crappie (on a sinking Rapala lure) and lots of small white bass.
