Chuck Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775) 266-3550 reported: There is no snow and the trees are barely moving in the wind (Monday morning) but we are supposed to get hit hard later today. A lot of fish were caught over the weekend with lots of limits for lots of people. Shore fishermen were not doing that bad with nightcrawlers. Biggest fish was 5-pounds, 6-ounces. It

Fish are starting to show up in shallow water. They are still spread out all over the lake and all of the normal spots are doing well. Pelican, Warrior, Monument, Lone tree and Wino beaches top the list. Try Chartreuse wooly's trailed by a big black woolly. Nymphing is also starting to catch fish. In California - Access is very tough due to recent snowfall. Most of the pullouts are covered and the water is only in the high 30's. In Nevada - The fishing has been pretty good of late. The flows are in the 390 cfs range through town. Anything under 400 cfs makes it very easy to access the deeper pools where the fish like to hang

South Shore: Gene St. Denis: Fishing has been slow to good. I've been trolling at Ski Run Shelf at 150-280 feet with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows. The jiggers are jigging in water 160 feet deep with Crippled Herring Jigs, tipped with a live minnow. The Macks are running 2-7 pounds.

East Shore: Gene St. Denis: Toplining with Rapala lures has been good to excellent, dependent on the day, for mostly rainbows and some Macks (2-6 pounds) at Deadman's Point, Logal Shoals and Zephyr Cove. A couple of browns were caught. Shore fishermen at Cave Rock have been having good action for 10-20 inch rainbows with worms, Power Bait or live minnows.

The winner ($4,000) was Peter Thompson of Reno with an 11-pound, 15.2 ounce (29.5 inches) Cutthroat. He is a fly fisherman who fishes at the North Nets. Chris and Jeri Grellman of Sparks of Hog Charters (358-5199): Chris got a 10.4 pounder in the Crosby derby, he finished in seventh place and won $500. Fishing on Saturday was good but Sunday was real slow and the weather was real cold.
