Western Nevada Fish Reports

We’ve been taking care of business in a big way to start this season! These fish are being some gluttonous freaks and there’s plenty to go around! Mike shared his catch from Pyramid Lake: he was trolling the south end of the lake today and caught a 14-pound fish (calculated weight is 15 pounds). It hit on the downrigger at 60 feet using a Lyman in frog color.

Hot weather here on the Truckee River.  Somewhat cold at night and hot during the day, but a pretty early fall heat wave happening.  So, don't look for any dry fly fishing, ain't happening, streamer fishing, nada. The lake level has been going down about a foot or so each week. Fishing for trout has been slow. But the smallmouth fishing has been productive.

Things are really starting to get good on the Truckee River. It's that time of year. Getting progressively colder, and trouts eating progressively more. Fall.  Flows are pretty great for this time of year. Great wading flows. Little skinny on the raft, but manageable.  Nymphing will still get you the most fish. Small mayfly patterns, smaller stones, smaller crayfish patterns. Keep in eye for fish looking up
