Western Nevada Fish Reports

The Truckee River is below 1,000 CFS through the downtown gauge for the first time this summer! The river temp has climbed a bit due to the water master moving flow from Boca to Tahoe. Boca is a cold bottom release and Tahoe is a warmer surface release. Water temps are topping out at 68 degrees but with a cool down next week we are

Lahontan Reservoir, located in Lahontan State Recreation Area, has been placed under a HAB Watch Advisory due to an active Harmful Algae Bloom. A recent water test produced low algal toxin concentrations, and has been backed up by visual indicators and satellite imagery. These toxic algae can cause serious health issues for humans and animals. If you see water that looks discolored or smells bad, stay away.

Great news for anglers! Ash Canyon Road to Hobart Reservoir in western Nevada is officially open just in time for Nevada's Free Fishing Day! At Pyramid Lake, fish are biting in deep water frequently. Fishing with orange colors in the 70-foot water column seems to be the hot ticket. The shore bite hasn’t been good due to the moss. Pyramid Lake closes on June 30th, so go do some deep-water fishing here while it is good! Pyramid Lake is currently at 100% capacity.

  The Truckee River is in great shape moving into summer. Tons of bugs out on the water. Pick up your flies to represent, caddis, yellow stoneflies, large stoneflies, green drakes and flying ants. The Truckee River has fished increasingly well with water levels dropping. The Truckee River at the Reno Gauge is hovering between 1,000-1,200 CFS. The Truckee saw a significant drop in flows along the entire river system this week. Looking at the various gauging stations in the local creeks, it appears most of the drop in flows come from the smaller seasonal creeks as opposed to whatever is controlled by dams. This drop from 1,200 CFS to 750 CFS around Glenshire in under a week is a good indicator

Perfect frigging weather. Springs the best. Usually it don’t stop snowing until June, but this years been pretty nice. Flows are slowly coming down. Around 1000 cfs here in Hirschdale, and 1,300 cfs down lower. Not that big really. Clarity is coming back in shape too. Was never really bad the last few weeks, but much clearer now.
