Upper Truckee River water levels are low, but the fishing is still good in some deeper sections

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Water Conditions With low flows coming from Lake Tahoe, the Upper Truckee River water levels are low, but the fishing is still good in some deeper sections. Heading towards Truckee, the flows pick up with all of the creeks and runoff feeding into the river. Even with the runoff we are seeing, clarity is still good. Flows are currently 74 CFS out of Tahoe City, 612

The lake level has started to come down a few feet over the last week or two

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has started to come down a few feet over the last week or two. Fishing has been good for early morning anglers trolling flashers followed by a worm or a #1 needlefish lure. Some anglers have just been trolling a Panther Martin or a Roostertail behind the boat. When you troll spinners, I recommend using a small ball bearing snap swivel so

Pretty solid Spring fly fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Glitch in the system with the snow and the weather this past weekend. 68 by next weekend in Truckee, bring it. Pretty solid Spring fly fishing on the Truckee River. Big fish time. Not lots of fish time. Flows came up a bit with the rain and snow. About 1,200 cfs here in Hirschdale and higher as you go down towards Reno. We still have some snow

The river has seen a good drop in flows this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The river has seen a good drop in flows this week and has begun to run quite a bit more clear than in the past few weeks. This will be the case along the entire system, from here in Truckee all the way through Reno. It’s hard to tell if we are just seeing a temporary drop in flows due to cooler air temps, or

Pretty darn good Spring fly fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
If you’re after numbers, wait until Summer, actually go fish the Lower Sac, but if you like big fish, this is the time. Nice Spring weather too. Sunshine and big puffy Simpson clouds. We got right around 1000 cfs here in Hirschdale. Actually it’s around 1000k all up and down the river. So yeah, somewhat bigger flows. Clarity is actually very good for the higher flows. Think

Continue to fish the soft water, rifles and seams found along the banks

by TROUT CREEK FLIES STAFF
The flow charts for the river seem to continue along with a mostly upward trajectory, except for Thursday of this week, which brought the CFS at Farad down from 1,550 to 1,200. This will be short lived, and with the warm days ahead we should see flows continue to trend upwards in the immediate future. Continue to fish the soft water, rifles and seams found

Toplining for large rainbow and brown trout has also been productive in shallower water

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Shore anglers are using smaller spinners for planted trout and larger spoons diving plugs for larger rainbows and browns. Toplining for large rainbow and brown trout has also been productive in shallower water (less than 50 feet in depth) but will start to change as we summer set in finally. Fishing has been productive all day but will likely shift to early and late with

The East has been bumped up to about 212 cfs now

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The East Walker on the California side of the state line is closed until April 27. 2024. The Nevada side of the river is open through the Winter.   The East has been bumped up to about 212 cfs now, it’s still fishing pretty well but it is a bit more difficult than when it was at a lower flow. You’ll have to add some additional weight

Pyramid Lake Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The lake has seen a bit of an increase in activity this week, however with all the other great options to be had this time of year, we wouldn’t say that this is our first choice of places to fish right now. The water temps have risen a bit and some of the post spawn fish are starting to feed with a bit more regularity,

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
While it was unfortunate to see the water along 89 South remain so low last year, even after the second biggest recorded snowpack in history, the positive of the new management style of Lake Tahoe’s water levels is that the lake is already full this spring. We should see good flows along the upper river for the entire spring and hopefully throughout a good portion

The spawn is in full swing, but should be ending soon

by RENO FLY SHOP
Pyramid Lake by Mike Anderson The spawn is in full swing, but should be ending soon. The surface temps have increased quite a bit from our last report. This has accelerated the spawn and will get us back to good fishing soon. The bite has actually picked up some with the increased temperature, and should continue to do so until the surface temps get above 65+ degrees. Both

Fly fishing on the Truckee River has been good over the last few weeks

by RENO FLY SHOP
Truckee River by Aden Breckner Fly fishing on the Truckee River has been good over the last few weeks. Looking forward, flows are expected to increase on a daily basis as we enter spring runoff. Flows at the Reno gauge are just above 1,000 cfs as of this writing. With increasing flows, we will turn towards high water tactics.  Fish get pushed up near the bank this time

The East Walker has seen a phenomenal month of fishing

by RENO FLY SHOP
The East Walker has seen a phenomenal month of fishing on the Nevada side. Nymphing in the morning turns into great dry fly fishing in the evening for both rainbow and brown trout.

Trolling has been good to very good on the north

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has fluctuated a foot or two. The fishing has still been fair from shore for anglers using powerbait or mini nightcrawlers. Trolling has been good to very good on the north and north west side with Needlefish or Rapalas. Flashers and worms have also been productive for catchable rainbows. Boaters beware of floating debris on the lake. The Douglas County campground is

Spring has sprung, for the time being.

by MATT KOLES
Spring has sprung, for the time being. You get to the point, that if you see another snowflake you’re gonna loose it. T-shirty weather now. Flows are going to get big now. Right neat 1K, here in Hirschdale and growing. Of course bigger as you go downriver. High water fishing. Probably now until mid-June. Now, if you know, you know. Some of the best fishing we have is right

Flows are about to go way up with the spring snowmelt

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Flows are about to go way up with the spring snowmelt. Fishing for bass above Mexican Dam should pick up when we reach the end of runoff. Trout fishing should be good where trout are stocked following the peak runoff.

Flows are up and will continue to increase as we finally start to see our runoff peak

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Flows are up and will continue to increase as we finally start to see our runoff peak over the next month. Stocking around Broken Dam will pickup when flows start to come down later this spring. High flows will make wading dangerous, be sure to use caution if you must get out.

Bilk has had a few tough years but should improve when trout stocking begins again

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Bilk has had a few tough years but should improve when trout stocking begins again. There are still a few bass in the lake, but the trout should be the main catch during the coolest months.

The walleye and wiper fishing was excellent at the lake last year

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The walleye and wiper fishing was excellent at the lake last year and should fish well this year given the precipitation we received this winter. Warmer temperatures will help with the consistency, until then, expect a mix of good and fair days on the water. Night crawlers under a bobber or carp cut bait from shore seemed to be the best bet.

Pyramid Lake Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We wish we had some good news for you. Unfortunately, with regards to the fishing at Pyramid this week, we don’t. The fishing out here remains poor, to put it nicely. If you are very tuned in to this lake, and have some of the subtle nuances dialed in, then yes, you will find a few fish. But that should say something. This is normally
