by RENO FLY SHOP
Hope you enjoy this week’s On-the-Water Report from the Truckee River from Aden Breckner. I just finished up the day and we had a pretty good day fishing a lot of Stoneflies. Those have started up just in the last 4 or 5 days here on the Nevada side. We’ve been getting out pretty early with the water temp being warmer. It has cooled off since

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
As mentioned above, the Truckee has benefitted from the week of cooler weather and thunderstorms, and temps are topping out around 66 degrees from the Boca Confluence to the Nevada state line. The section from Tahoe City to the confluence continues to see the water get too warm in the early afternoons and fishing here should be limited to those looking to just fish the

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS

Fly Fishing Report | Truckee River | mid July 2024

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River has continued to drop since the last report, but we will see the flows stabilize around their current 460 cfs through the downtown gauge. The river is very close to its natural channel and because of this  finding fish has become easier. The bugs have changed a lot in the past few weeks as well. A lot of the hatches we have

There have been a fair number of changes in conditions on the river this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
There have been a fair number of changes in conditions on the river this week as the flows out of Boca are cut down from 500 to 200 CFS causing the Farad area to drop down around 800. While we would say these flows are just about perfect, this drop combined with the hot days as of late, have caused the water temps rise down

The Truckee River is currently flowing at optimal levels for this time of year

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Water Conditions The Truckee River is currently flowing at optimal levels for this time of year, providing ideal conditions for anglers from Tahoe City to the Nevada border. The current conditions help the fish spread throughout the entire river system, which offers more opportunities for anglers to get some bites. However, it is essential to note that as the summer temperatures continue to rise, water temperatures

Double Digit Catches

by ROBERT VARIK
The bite has been slower recently, but the big fish are around. Over the last four trips, there have been five double-digit catches. Kokanee salmon are also starting to gather. Check availability at Tahoe Trophy Trout.

Flows have finally settled down on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
785 cfs here in Hirschdale, and I’m sure that will come down this week some too. 550 cfs here in Hirschdale are perfect wading flows. 450 cfs in Reno is what you’re looking for. 750 cfs now. Things are getting closer to average flows. The big news is the here is the heat wave we’ll have this week. Thank God we have a lot of water,

Fishing has really picked up at Rye Patch!

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The heat is here and fishing has really picked up at Rye Patch. The abundant water over the last two years has helped significantly improve the overall health of this fishery. The walleye, crappie, white bass, and smallmouth fishing has been good on bright rooster tails and jigs. The catfish fishing has also started to pickup and should continue to improve. Crawlers on the bottom

Fishing at Hobart has been excellent this season

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing at Hobart has been excellent this season. Tiger trout were recently stocked and should continue to help knock down the brook trout population and their tendency to overpopulate. The tiger trout are targeting the small brook trout and growing pretty large some cases. Reports of tigers up to seventeen inches are becoming more regular over the last two seasons. Spin fisherman using small spinners

Marilyn's Pond is Fishing Well and Busy

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Marilyn’s Pond has been fishing well this summer but has also been busy. Fishing will remain good as long as water temperatures remain cool. Bait fisherman using salmon eggs and baby crawlers on light lines under bobbers are catching fish all day. Fly fisherman using small terrestrial dry flies have been catching fish on the surface early and late in the day. Stocking will continue

The Truckee remains high but is fishing well

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The Truckee remains high but is fishing well. We’ve been at roughly 900cfs for a few weeks but should see flows reduced slightly as we move further into summer. The fish are healthy and happy even with the spike in early summer temperatures and the clarity remained good all spring. No recent repots of USFW stocking the Lahontan Cutthroats but that should change as flows

Fishing has been excellent this summer!

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been excellent this summer on Baily Pond for stocked trout and green sunfish. We should see the trout fishing slow down some with the extreme heat of summer, but the green sunfish fishing will remain excellent. Bait fishing with salmon eggs under a bobber or powerbait off the bottom remains the most effective methods on the pond. Small spinners are still catching a

Excellent Fishing at Walker River, East Fork

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Flows have been a little high at roughly 250cfs for quite a while, but fishing has remained excellent. Stocking has been strong from spring through summer so far and should continue as temperatures allow. Spin fisherman using bright spinners and small spoons are finding fish just about everywhere. Fly fisherman with larger streamers in the deeper runs have been just as effective as the spinners.

Knott Creek Reservoir has been fishing very well

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Knott Creek Reservoir has been fishing very well. Shore anglers tossing small spoons and kastmasters into deeper water away from  vegetation are finding some good fish. Fly fisherman using large leech patterns and damsels from boats and float tubes are catching some really nice fish early and late in the day. Good Reports at Onion Valley Reservoir

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Onion is fishing very well. Good reports have come in from both shore and boat anglers. Spin fisherman using small bright spinners and spoons are finding lots of fish from shore. Sporadic damsels and mayfly hatches are keeping the fish
