Truckee River Fishing Report & Forecast

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The water temps have plummeted on the Truckee this week. just 5 days ago, on September 15th, we were seeing temperatures peak at 62 around Farad, as of today they’re hitting just above 56. At the Sparks, NV gauge, temps are reaching 58 degrees mid-day. With the prime flows anywhere below the Boca confluence and the drop in temps, this tells us that we are

The Carson is down to typical fall levels and fishing well

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The Carson is down to typical fall levels and fishing well. Small spinners seem to be the best bet for the remining planters around broken dam. Fly fisherman are finding a few trout on small streamers and small nymphs on light tippets. Some surface activity has been reported early an late in the day.

The east Walker is slowly dropping for the season and is still fishing excellent

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The east Walker is slowly dropping for the season and is still fishing excellent. Stocking has been strong through the summer. Spin fisherman using bright spinners and small spoons are finding fish in water with a little depth. Fly fisherman with larger streamers in the deeper runs have been just as effective as the spinners. Tight line nymphing has been deadly with mayfly imitations. Hoppers

Flows are excellent and fishing has been great

We've stepped into the fall fishing season on the Truckee!

by MATT KOLES
We've stepped into the fall fishing season on the Truckee River.  Little bit of rain today, clouds..Going to warm back up though, and probably back to nice sunny weather.  Pretty solid fishing all up and down the Truckee River. Flows have basically shut off coming out of Lake Tahoe. You might as well stick a fork in that upper section, it's done. I'm always from Boca on

The Truckee continues to fish well this week!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee continues to fish well this week, in particular below the Boca confluence where flows are at their best and the water temps most consistent. We are catching fish on both larger flies such as craws and stones, and smaller patterns imitating BWO’s and midges. The fish continue to hold in riffles and pocket water for now, but with the cooler days ahead we

The lake level has been going down about a foot or so each week

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has been going down about a foot or so each week. Fishing for trout has been slow. But the smallmouth fishing has been productive.

It's starting to get good on the Truckee!

by MATT KOLES
Things are really starting to get good on the Truckee River. It's that time of year. Getting progressively colder, and trouts eating progressively more. Fall.  Flows are pretty great for this time of year. Great wading flows. Little skinny on the raft, but manageable.  Nymphing will still get you the most fish. Small mayfly patterns, smaller stones, smaller crayfish patterns. Keep in eye for fish looking up

The Truckee River continues to fish well as we slide into Fall

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River continues to fish well as we slide into Fall. The water dropped a bit this week as the Federal Water Master reduced flow coming out of Lake Tahoe. September is the month that river flows can bounce around a bit. This is largely due to upstream reservoir releases changing as a result of irrigation releases going down and flood control releases increasing.

EF Walker River Fly Fishing Report

by RENO FLY SHOP
There was some unfortunate news from the East Walker River over the past month. We understand that there was an event in and near Bridgeport Reservoir that caused a fish kill downstream of the dam. The CA Fish and Wildlife responded with an investigation and a suggestion of not fishing on the CA section of the East Fork Walker River. In communication with NDOW there

The Truckee River is currently flowing out of Lake Tahoe at a rate of 140 CFS

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
The Truckee River is currently flowing out of Lake Tahoe at a rate of 140 CFS. As fall arrives, water temperatures will decrease, especially at night. In the town of Truckee, the flow is at 124 CFS, and it increases below Donner Creek to 227 CFS. Further downriver, the lower Truckee River is flowing at 454 CFS. A cooling trend is expected in the area

The Truckee has been fishing great this week!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee has been fishing great this week with a good number of small fish still being caught and a handful of larger fish now in the mix. Crawdads and stoneflies are really going to be the best way to target the bigger fish right now, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to have that small mayfly nymph or midge larva below it to double your

Pretty good solid fishing on the Truckee!

by MATT KOLES
Summers up and gone on the Truckee River. A little cooler weather too.  High's in the 70's this weekend, 60's by the end of next week.  Pretty good solid fishing. Lots of dinks, with some nice fish showing up here and there. Typical Indian Summer time of year fishing. You can rack up some numbers of fish, and hopefully by the end of the day, you hooked

Early fall fishing conditions are starting to appear

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Water Conditions Due to the recent cooler weather, early fall fishing conditions are starting to appear and the fishing on the Truckee River has been improving. The lower temperatures from last week have led to the appearance of larger fish. With the flows being at a good rate this time of year, the trout should be widely spread throughout the entire river system. This week, the

The bite on the Truckee continues to get better and better

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The bite on the Truckee continues to get better and better every week. As temps begin to trend downwards, we are seeing the larger fish become a bit more present in recent weeks. The crawdad bite has proven to be good this august and dead drifting them is a great way to target bigger fish while presenting smaller bugs at the same time. You can

That's a wrap on Summer!

by MATT KOLES
That's a wrap on Summer.  Indian summer now on the Truckee River. Nice brisk mornings, and hot afternoons.  Flows are great for wading and getting around all up and down the river. This is the start of the second season, and in most anglers opinions, the best season to fly fish.  I've mostly downsized my nymphs, and now's a good time to start streamer fishing.  The fishing is good
