Good Fishing

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been fair to good depending upon the day. It seems to be best when there is a slight breeze putting a chop on the water. Anglers have had some success along Jet Ski Beach using prince nymphs and wooly buggers. Other small flies such as hares ears, soft hackles and chironomids should work from shore. The usual worms or PowerBait as well as

Water Opening Up

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Water continues to open up here though there is still unsafe ice on the lake. There are places with enough open water to fish from shore. Expect fishing to be fair to good for nine to twelve inch fish using worms, small spinners and PowerBait. Fly rodders should be using small beadhead prince nymphs, hares ears, wooly buggers and Cave Lake specials.

Ice Free

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The lake is now ice free and the water level is coming up currently at about 60% of capacity. Fish have been seen dimpling the surface, probably taking midges or mayfly emergers. Fishing should be good on the warmer afternoons.

Open Water but Limited

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
There is enough open water for shore fishing, but it is still limited. No report on how fishing is.

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
No recent report, but expect the ice here to be unsafe. Probably not enough open water to fish yet. Once it does open up, expect fishing to be good.

Pray for Snow

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Construction on the reservoir is complete and the low pool area even held some water after the rains earlier in the summer. Pray for snow next winter to fill it and if this happens then NDOW will stock it with trout, largemouth bass and bluegill in the spring of 2016. It all depends on Mother Nature.

Harrison Pass is still closed due to snow and anglers should plan on accessing the Refuge through Secret Pass or Overland Pass. The collection ditch is really opening up and fishing has been very good here using a variety of flies, spinners and lures. The oxbow pond behind the hatchery is still producing 10 to 15 inch fish taken on an assortment of flies and

Lake Level Rising

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
With the lake level rising, there is an open ring of water around the lake and the ice is not safe. As of Wednesday, there wasn’t enough open water to fish, but it won’t be long with the predicted warm temperatures, precipitation and wind. Once it does open up, expect fishing to be slow, though anglers can still expect better than average fish when they

Not worth the Trip

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Extremely low water levels with warm water make this reservoir a poor choice for fishing. Not worth the trip.

Almost Ready

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
No recent report, but last week the road was in poor condition and the lake generally mimics South Fork, so with the warmer weather assume the edges have opened up and it is covered with unsafe ice. Once there is enough open water to fish, expect fishing to be fair to good. The road in is very rutted and after any precipitation , should be

New Reports in Spring

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The road to Angel Lake is closed. There will be no further reports until late next spring or early summer depending upon snow conditions.

Projected to be Good

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
South Fork is 90% covered with unsafe ice. There is some open water in the flats at the south end of the lake, though it is shallow there and fishing is difficult. As of Wednesday, there wasn’t enough open water along the shoreline for fishing, but with the weather predicted for the weekend, that is going to change any day now. Once there is enough

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
No recent report, but like other lakes in the area expect unsafe ice.

100% Ice Covered

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Lots of snow and the lake is 100% ice covered. You can’t drive to the lake, but you can walk down from the main road. However, no word on the thickness, so drill a test hole close to shore before venturing upon it. No report on how the fishing is here.

Unsafe Ice?

Not Easy to Access but Good Fishing

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Harrison Pass is closed due to snow and anglers should plan on accessing the Refuge through Secret Pass. Secret Pass does experience drifting near the top, so take care here as well. As a general rule anglers can almost always find some open water here due to flows and the numerous springs even during very cold weather. The ditch is approximately 85% ice covered and

Some Big Fish Being Caught

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Wild Horse is covered with an average of about 14 inches of inches of good hard ice with a layer of slush and then a layer of one to three inches of ice on top of the slush. On top of that mess, is about six inches of snow. The top layer of ice is thin enough in places that ATV’s break through into the
