by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Recently, Ruby Lake NWR extended the hours that birders, hunters and anglers may go out on the refuge to pursue their interests from one hour before sunrise, to two hours before sunrise. This will allow

Fishing is Good

by ELKO FLY SHOP
Jakes Creek is within six inches of spilling, is free of weeds and shore fishing is good for 9 to 14 inch trout. Surface water temps have are in the low 50’s and the water is fairly clear. The usual assortment of wooly buggers, hares ears, copper Johns and PT nymphs should all work. PowerBait, worms and small spinners should be used by

Ruby Lake NWR Fish Report

by ELKO FLY SHOP
Fishing is still fair to good for trout depending upon the day, the angler and where you are fishing along the collection ditch. The go-to fly seems to be the hares ear, with the pheasant tail nymph close behind. Also, wooly buggers and flies that have some red in them also seem to be working. For spin fishermen the usual assortment of small spinners

Good Fishing

by ELKO FLY SHOP
With the recent precipitation, the water level is up just a bit. But not enough to make much of a difference. However, anglers have been getting up to Wild Horse and catching fish averaging between three and five pounds. Most anglers are using worms or worms with marshmallows. One group fished from a boat, while the others were from shore.

Water is clearing

by ELKO FLY SHOP
While the water at Wilson is clearing, it is still off color, though fishing has picked up here. The stream below has flows that are fishable and one angler reported decent luck catching 14 to 15 inch fish below the falls. Shore anglers near the boat ramp were having good luck with worms and PowerBait for 12 to 15 inch fish. NDOW

Road Closed until May 2015

by ELKO FLY SHOP
The road is closed to the lake and there will be no fishing reports for Angel Lake until late May of 2015.

Wildhorse Fish Report

by ELKO FLY SHOP
With warmer air temperatures, the surface water temps have climbed into the 50’s and reaching the mid 50’s by afternoon. There are still a few fish cruising the shorelines trying to spawn, but not many, and that should be winding down soon. Fishing continues to improve with the warmer temperatures as aquatic insects start to hatch and the fish metabolism increases. Sherbet PowerBait

Cave Lake Fish Report

by ELKO FLY SHOP
Fishing continues to improve for fish in the 9 to 12 inch range. The usual small spinners, PowerBait and worms should all work. Fly rodders should be using hare’s ears, PT, prince, copper Johns, zug bugs and small wooly and crystal buggers. On warm afternoons when the midges are hatching Griffith’s gnats, Adams, elk hair caddis and other popular dry flies in

FIshing has been Productive

by ELKO FLY SHOP
Water levels at Cold Creek are good and fishing has been productive. CC was stocked with 2000 trout on April 15th and fish are actually hitting dry flies here. Fly fishermen should use Adams, Griffiths gnats, elk hair caddis, mosquito and royal coachmen for dry flies. For nymphs turn to hares ears, copper Johns, prince nymphs and zug bugs. The

Illipah Reservoir Fish Report

by ELKO FLY SHOP
Both the water quality and fishing are good here at Illipah. Float tubers have been catching fish using a medium to slow sinking line getting wooly buggers and nymphs down in the water column for some nice browns and rainbows. Rainbows are being caught off the rocks on the north side of the old dam. The usual assortment of worms, artificial

Ruby Lake Fish Report

by CRAIG MATHEWS
The Ruby will continue fishing well during mid-day and afternoon during BWO times too.

NDOW Announces No Limit on Trout at Wildhorse

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Low water levels caused by persistent drought conditions and irrigation demands at Wildhorse Reservoir have prompted the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) to remove the limit on trout, allowing anglers unlimited take. This emergency regulation is now in effect and will run through October 15, 2013. NDOW is concerned that with anticipated low reservoir water levels during the hot summer months the oxygen levels in

Jakes Creek Reservoir has been stocked and fishing should be good

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
This lake has been stocked and fishing should be good here. Water level is about a foot from spilling, so while it is a bit low, this small impoundment is in better shape than many. This is the time to fish Jakes Creek Reservoir from shore, as the weeds start to grow in late May and early June making fishing from shore difficult later in

Not open as the lake is iced over

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The road is closed and the lake is completely iced over. No more reports until about mid or late May when NDOT generally opens the road to this high mountain lake.

Fishing has been good at Cave Lake for 8 to 10 inch fish

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been good for 8 to 10 inch fish using baits as well as small spinners and flies. Trout are often seen shoaling in the shallows and sight fishing can be fun. South Fork Bishop Creek Fishing Report

by JARED SMITH
Southern California Edison had to complete some dam work at South Lake on Tuesday and to do so they needed to keep the water level steady while they worked. To do this they opened the outflow to max flow for the majority of the day Tuesday - so there was a LOT of water coming down the creek. DFG was reported to have stocked on

Angel Lake Fish Report 01-30-2008

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
I'm just guessing, but most of the alpine lakes are icing up and while this one is a bit lower, it is in shadow during the warmest part of the day, which is the afternoon and I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't starting to ice up. I haven't been able to find out if the road is closed yet, but if we get some

Commins Lake Fish Report 01-19-2008

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Not much change here as the ice at this White Pine County reservoir is about 8 to 10 inches thick and anglers are pulling very few trout through the ice due to the decimation of the trout population by pike.

Cave Lake Fish Report 01-30-2008

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Ice here is 10 to 12 inches of good hard ice. Anglers are catching limits of 10 to 12 inch fish through the ice using worms and worm/jig combinations when the weather cooperates.

Illipah Fish Report 01-30-2008

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Snow conditions make travel a bit dicey here, but ice conditions are about the same as at Cave. According to Chris Crookshanks, NDOW fisheries biologist, this is the place to ice fish in White Pine County. Unfortunately, not a lot of anglers are taking advantage of it, so there hasn't been much in the way of information coming out of Illipah. Nightcrawlers are the bait
