Fishing has been slow this week at Lake Mohave due to high winds and cold temps.

High winds have kept most anglers away from the lake. The take has been slow, but as weather conditions improve fishing should follow suit.

Anglers are catching rainbows & brown trout on any ice free water at Eagle Valley Reservoir

Ice covering the reservoir averages from eight to 12 inches thick, but anglers will find some open water near the dam. Anglers have been catching both rainbow and brown trout, some as long as 14 inches. Most have been fooled by jigs, night crawlers or PowerBait.

There is some open water on Echo Canyon Reservoir and fishermen are doing well in those areas

There is open water along the dam and many anglers have taken advantage of this to use jigs and bobbers to take fish. The best baits have proven to be night crawlers and powerbait.

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass are in the shallows at Lake Mohave and the fishing is good

Late February and early March are traditionally some of the best fishing on this water as largemouth and prepare for the spawn. Despite warmer temperatures and spring-like weather conditions fishing action remains slow overall. However, there have been some reports of good fishing or striped bass from the Muddy river inflow to Echo Bay. The Vegas Wash area also is showing signs that fishing is beginning to improve.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR

There is plenty of open water on this Lincoln County reservoir. Anglers should find plenty of rainbow and tiger trout, carryovers from the NDOW fall stocking schedule. Spring plants should begin shortly. Fishing will be slow until water temperatures push the 50-degree mark. Worms, PowerBait and small spinners are generally a good choice.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

Anglers have been catching rainbow trout and the odd largemouth bass. Some anglers have reportedly caught a few crappie, but Park Supervisor Ben Johnson said it's still a little early yet. Crappie activity should increase in the coming weeks. For trout try night crawlers or PowerBait.

PowerBait, worms and Woolly Buggers have all been taking rainbow trout at Willow Beach. The fishing is sluggish, but anglers are catching fish. Anglers have been pulling in a few stripers along the Boulder Beach area. The ice is no longer safe, but anglers can fish by standing on the dock and drilling holes through the adjacent ice. Fishermen have been averaging three to five trout per day using worms or PowerBait.

Echo is nearly full and should receive a load of rainbow trout in the next week or two. As the water warms in spring crappie can generally be caught in the narrows at the upper end of the reservoir. For hold-over rainbows try Mepp's or Panther Martin spinners and PowerBait.

High winds are credited with breaking up the Hemenway fishing pier and pushing the breakwater tires into shore.
