Both shore and boat anglers are finding good fishing near Cottonwood Cove. Shad have been seen in coves to the north and to the south of the marina. Trolling with prepared bait in 15 to 60 feet of water continues to be the most productive approach to netting one of the area's plump stripers though anglers are also catching fish by stillfishing with cut bait.

Last weekend's storms kept many anglers at bay, but others took advantage of the low fishing pressure to catch a few rainbow trout near the outflow stream from the Willow Beach Fish Hatchery. Those who caught fish were using PowerBait, Rooster Tails, or nightcrawlers. Striped bass fishing has slowed down, though Bomber Long A lures have caught some fish. At Cottonwood Cove, fishing is fair

Winds put a damper on fishing during the past week, but overall fishing for striped bass continues to be good. Anglers have seen the action pick up along the beaches and have been reeling in fish from four to eight pounds with the odd fish pushing past 10. Surprisingly, the stripers are still keying on shad despite the presence of stocked rainbow trout. In the

Cut bait has been the ticket for stripers along the beaches and at Hemenway Point where a 10-year old angler reeled in a 22-pound fish last weekend. A pair of stripers weighing 12 and 14 pounds were also caught in this area. Anglers continue to catch fish in the one- to three-pound class in the Vegas Bay area on cut bait and by jigging hard

The Thanksgiving weekend was good for one boater who caught several large striped bass near Willow Beach. The largest fish weighed 30 pounds, and the man landed several stripers that weighed between 10 and 20 pounds. The fish were caught on various swimbaits, among them the AC Plug. Shore anglers haven't fared as well as boaters when it comes to catching stripers. For them fishing

Anglers continue to find good trout action near the Willow Beach Hatchery outflow though fishing also has been good elsewhere following the trout plants. During the morning trout are taking yellow PowerBait and peach colored salmon eggs while one angler found success with plastic worms during the afternoon. Striper anglers have been throwing anchovies, mackerel, swimbaits, and shrimp with little success. Further south, anglers have

Cut anchovies fished about three cranks off the bottom were just the ticket for a pair of a small group of anglers who reeled in 127 striped bass while fishing outside of Gypsum Wash. They caught the fish in 55-60 feet of water under crappie lights. Most were in the one- to three-pound range. Live shad also continue to be productive. Action along the beaches
