Anglers have been catching trout with a variety of baits and lures. Try brown or olive Woolly Buggers, PowerBait, and spinners. Bass and Crappies are taking jigs later in the day. The reservoir is low, but vegetation is clearing from the shorelines. Use caution along the muddy shores.

Stripers in the 3-pound range are taking anchovies from shoreline anglers near Big Bend State Recreation Area. Boaters throwing jerkbaits are tempting the bigger fish. In addition, seasonal trout plants have begun at multiple locations along the river, providing ample opportunities for shore anglers. Glitter PowerBait and night crawlers are the go-to trout baits.

Anglers are reporting boils

The striper bite is slow at Willow Beach. Panther Martins and PowerBait are landing limits of rainbow trout. Cooler water temperatures in the main reservoir are bringing stripers up into shallower water. Anglers are reporting boils near Katherine Landing. Jerkbaits, walking baits, and topwater lures are popular choices. A combination of dark-colored soft plastics and crankbaits are attracting black bass in weedy coves.

Bluegill action has been best in the late afternoon

Action has been a little slow at the community fishing ponds though catfish are taking night crawlers and stink baits. Bluegill action has been best in the late afternoon when the water temperature is at its warmest. They are taking night crawler pieces and mealworms. The best action is taking place in the morning hours and again at sunset when the winds are calmest. Variable weather and high winds have made it challenging to fish throughout the day. Rainbow trout have been hitting on rainbow PowerBait, night crawlers and an assortment of quarter- to half-ounce spinning lures and spoons.

Anglers have been doing well from shore. Trout are averaging 10 to 12 inches. Bass are still hitting lines later in the day, and trout fishing has been best throughout the morning hours. Rainbow trout have been biting well for the few anglers working the lake. Pink, orange, and green PowerBait have been productive. So have  small spinners. Dark-colored Woolly Buggers are effective for both trout and bass. Aquatic vegetation is subsiding along most of the shorelines. While the water is still low, be prepared for muddy shorelines.

The river is producing stripers up to 8 pounds for boaters using anchovies. Fish weighing in under 2 pounds are taking baits from shoreline anglers. Most action has been reported downriver, south of Big Bend State Recreation Area. Anglers are reporting smallmouth bass catches in the same area on soft plastics. Catfish are hitting chicken livers and anchovies fished near vegetation.

We are having a great striper season mostly the smaller ones are being picked up.  Our local anglers Mike Merritt and fishing buddy Sharon Brewster are showing off a super catch of these stripers then landed. They were fishing in the big bend area and using anchovies yep our favorite striper bait. I am getting reports that a few of the stripers being caught here

North winds are expected to move storms through this weekend, bringing with them freezing overnight temperatures. Go prepared for weather changes. Trout fishing should be good throughout the day. Olive and red flies and spinners are a good place to start for trout and bass.

Trout action is getting even better than it has been. Anglers have been happy with their catches. Cooler weather moving through is making it prime fishing time. As aquatic vegetation thins out, fish will be more active towards the shore throughout the day. Bass may hit crankbaits later in the day. Worms and spinnerbaits are generally productive for trout.

Rainbow trout are keeping anglers busy on the river. PowerBait and Rooster Tails are helping anglers land their 5-fish limit. Striped bass activity has been hit and miss lately. Anglers are experimenting with jerkbaits, swimbaits, and pencil poppers in trout patterns. Frozen anchovies are a productive alternative.

Transitions into fall weather patterns are resulting in an increase in black bass activity on Lake Mohave. A variety of hard and soft plastics are tempting smallmouth up to 6 pounds. Green pumpkin chigger craws and bluegill crankbaits are two popular choices. In addition, striper anglers are finding fish up to 7 pounds when trolling in at least 20 feet of water near Davis Dam.

Anglers reported good fishing over the weekend. Catfish are favoring hotdogs and chicken gizzards. Families are catching small bluegill on worm pieces. Just a reminder, there are yellow or red and white tackle bins or garbage cans located around the community ponds for unwanted tackle and fishing line.

The black bass bite is picking up

The black bass bite is picking up in coves throughout the Overton Arm. Both hard and soft plastics in shad patterns are producing catches in the 2-pound range. Kayakers launching from Hemenway and Temple Bar are having luck with striped bass on topwater lures. Shoreline anglers are targeting catfish overnight with smelly corn and chicken liver fished just off the bottom.

We are having a great run of stripers this time of year. It’s mostly the 1 to 3 pound fish that are being landed here below the Davis Dam. Now and again the larger fish are out there it’s just the smaller ones can and will get to your bait first.  Well our local angler Dale Grace found that out  he landed a nice 34 inch
