Stripers picking up.

The Laughlin Lagoon remains the hotspot for black bass catches. Anglers are reporting bites on a variety of jerkbaits, trout swimbaits, and softs plastics. Striper activity is also picking up with the warmer weather. Most fish are between 1-3 pounds, but one lucky angler caught a 25-pounder along Casino Row. Anchovies are the bait of choice for stripers of all sizes.

Good Rainbow fishing

Rainbow trout between 2-3 pounds are taking spinners from kayak anglers south of Willow Beach. Anglers targeting striped bass are reeling in fish weighing more than 10 pounds on shad and trout-pattern lures from the boat. Lake Mohave boaters are enjoying the increase in black bass activity near their beds. Craws and worms in purple, red, and green are tempting fish up to 4 pounds.

Channel catfish are active and biting chicken liver and night crawlers fished a few inches off the bottom. Seasonal trout plants have ended due to warm water temperatures. Sunset Park is having water pump issues and cannot receive fish until it is fixed. Bluegill are hitting mealworms off the bottom. Plastics and spinnerbaits are enticing bass at Floyd Lamb Park.

Black Bass action heats up

Anglers are seeing more success with black bass as air temperatures hit the mid-80s. Soft plastics fished near spawning grounds are producing great fish in the Boulder Basin. Stripers are taking anchovies from shore anglers in the Las Vegas Bay. Live bait is working well for boaters trolling between 40-60 feet. The bite is reportedly best in the late afternoon and overnight.

Reservoir Waters Are Clear

Reservoir waters are clear, and fishing has been good. Rainbow trout will take night crawlers and a variety of spoons and spinning lures. Woolly Buggers and nymph patterns are working well for fly-fishers. Be prepared for afternoon winds that are common in the spring.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife planted the reservoir with 5,000 tiger trout and 15,000 rainbow trout. Fishing is good, but traffic has been slow. The reservoir waters are slowly rising. Fishing has been improving in the wake of spring trout plants. Rainbow trout will take spinners and night crawlers. Water at the campgrounds has not yet been turned on, but that is expected to change sometime in the coming week.

Lake Mohave Bass Are Active

Lake Mohave bass are active, but anglers are struggling with the wind. Smallmouth bass are biting in 6-8 feet of water. Chigger craws and worms in green pumpkin are the baits of choice. Willow Beach anglers are finding stripers just south of the marina. Trout swimbaits and anchovies fished deep are producing nice fish. Rainbow trout are hanging around the shadows near the fishing pier.

Striped bass anglers are having the most success with anchovies and golden shiners. Boaters are trolling down about 65 feet and shore anglers are seeing action in the coves of the Las Vegas Bay area.
