The most striper action is reported near the Big Bend State Recreation Area or just below Davis Dam. Anchovies are the bait of choice, but shad lures should attract fish too. For better fishing conditions, try fishing in the evening when less watercraft are out.

Fishing Has Been Good Overall at the Ponds

Fishing has been good overall at the ponds for bluegill, bass, and catfish.  The best action continues to be in the morning and at sunset, where access is available. Catfish are taking worms and hotdogs. Bluegill are hitting on night crawler pieces and PowerBait grubs. Anglers are catching bass on crankbaits and plastics.

Anglers are doing well for stripers near the dam and telephone cove. Trolling with an umbrella rig has been working the best. The largemouth and smallmouth bass are going after various plastics and some of the spinner baits.

Cut Anchovies Are Working Well

Striped bass can easily be caught under crappie lights at night. Try anchoring in around 40 feet and put out your submersible lights. Cut anchovies usually work well. You can fill your ice chest with small stripers. Don Martin recently caught a 32.8-pound striper using this technique. Don’t get your hopes up, though. They are usually much smaller.

Fishing Has Slowed Down Considerably

Fishing slowed considerably during the recent heat wave but should pick up again as temperatures begin to fall. Trout like spinners, spoons, PowerBait, and night crawlers. With dove season underway, visitors can enjoy wing shooting in the morning and evenings with fishing time squeezed in between.

Shore anglers are catching stripers between 1 and 3 pounds along the Colorado River. Anchovies or trout pattern lures are producing the most catches. Boaters are having better luck landing larger fish. Few reports about catfish and black bass have come in.

High Temps Are Making it Tough

High temperatures are making it tough to catch rainbow trout at Willow Beach. Stripers are hit and miss from the shoreline, but boaters are reporting success just south of Willow Beach. Swimbaits and anchovies are producing catches. The striper bite is beginning to pick up in the Cottonwood Basin. Reports say that fish up to 7 pounds have been hitting anchovies or taking trolled swimbaits.

Fishing has been good for bluegill, bass, and catfish.  The best action continues to be early in the morning and after sunset. Catfish are taking stink baits and hotdogs. Bluegill love mealworms, green grubs, and night crawler pieces.

Lake Mead Fishing Report

Striped bass are chasing threadfin shad throughout the Boulder Basin. Anglers are having success with chrome Rat-L-Traps and soft plastic swimbaits in shad patterns. Black bass are showing a preference for chartreuse colored lures and Ned rigs in the Overton Arm and Las Vegas Bay. Worms fished in Government Wash are attracting bluegill and catfish.

 Up on Lake Mohave the coves are producing some smallmouth activity along the shelves with the largemouth bass back in the shallows. The Stripers have been active near the dam and up in the basin area with anchovies and trolling with various lures in the white or trout pattern has been producing the best.
