River is Producing Some Nice Stripers

Las Vegas Urban Ponds Fishing Report

The Nevada Department of Wildlife stocked 5- to 7-inch Bluegill at all the urban ponds last month and this month. The agency planted  catfish at the end of April. Both species are taking small worms and corn combos. Fishing is best in the morning when the parks open or towards sunset where access is available. At Government Wash anglers are reporting striper, catfish, and bluegill catches. The stripers and catfish are biting at night on anchovies. Bluegill are taking night crawlers and meal worms. Good bluegill action also is being reported at Echo Bay. Black bass anglers are having the most luck in the Virgin Basin. Smallmouth are chasing ChatterBaits and largemouth are hitting on shad-pattern lures.

Good Action For Trout & Bass

Visitation at Spring Valley State Parkwas high over the holiday weekend. Anglers found good action for trout and largemouth bass. Chartreuse is usually the first color choice for success on this water. Plastics for bass and night crawlers or PowerBait for trout. Bass fishing is catch-and-release through June 30, and there have been some good catches.

Fishing Has Recently Picked Up

Traffic and the fish have picked up recently. Anglers are catching trout, bass and crappie using a variety of baits and lures. Li’l Jakes and Rooster Tails are great for feisty trout. Try a variety of colors if they aren’t biting. There have been some bass caught in the 1- to 5-pound range. It has been busy over the weekends. Campgrounds are still closed.

An increase in bluegill action is exciting anglers in Echo Bay and Government Wash. Try fishing a night crawler under a bobber from shore. Black bass are taking shad lures and soft plastics in watermelon colorations. To some anglers’ surprise, they are reeling in crappie on their black bass rigs. Striper and catfish action is best in the early mornings and at sunset.

Striper Bite is Taking Off at Lake Mohave

We have our local angler Muzzaffar Pana to share some lake news. Muzz was fishing up on Lake Mohave near the Davis dam and landed a nice 8.12 pound striper at 29 inches. The fishing here is producing some nice catches and the times are both day and night that seem to produce these strikes.
