While up on Lake Mohave, your chances for stripers are better near the dam and above the power lines. The coves on the Arizona side have been a bit better  — even the Arizona side telephone cove was dong OK. Our federal Willow Beach hatchery raises these endangered species. Crappie action is picking up, and the fish are taking Hare’s Ear Nymphs for fly fishers, while bait fishers are doing well with night crawlers suspended below a bobber. Trout fishing has been sluggish but should improve with cooler overnight temperatures. Rooster Tails and other spinners are catching trout as they slurp near the surface in the early mornings and again toward sunset. 

Rainbow trout have been hitting on combinations of night crawlers and mini-marshmallows. Spinners are fooling the fish during the early morning and evening hours. Crappie and bass action have been good with the fish taking spinning lures and small jigs.

Anglers continue to catch a variety of fish. Rainbow trout are hanging in the areas around docks and marshy coves. Rooster Tails and other spinners have been very productive. If you are getting bites but no hook ups, try switching to worms or Woolly Buggers below a bobber. For catfish and stripers, anchovies are the go-to bait.  Black bass are biting dark colored jigs below

Stripers and catfish are hitting baits throughout the lake. The line sides are taking crankbaits and trout imitations. Anchovies are working for catfish as well. Anglers have brought in a few stripers in the 5- to 10-pound class at Cottonwood Cove. They also are finding sunfish in coves above the marina. At Willow Beach, anglers are catching limits of stocked rainbow trout from the shoreline

Bluegill, green sunfish, and bass make up most of the catch at the ponds. Bass are hitting plastics and spinnerbaits. Catfish are hitting night crawlers and hotdog pieces. Small hooks with mealworms or chunks of nightcrawlers are working the best for bluegill and green sunfish.

 A big fish is the big news at this popular fishery. A pair of anglers from Southern California caught a large striper while fishing a boil in the Vegas Wash area. The fish tipped the scales at 28-pounds. Live shad are generally the bait of choice in this part of the lake and can be caught in the wash during the early morning hours. Striped

Cool nighttime temperatures are slowing down the growth of aquatic vegetation. It should begin to clear up soon. Crappie have been taking jigs and plastics. Trout and bass are hitting on spinners and night crawlers.

The trout bite is improving with overnight temperatures dropping. Anglers are catching trout in the morning and bass or crappie throughout the day. The bass and crappie are hitting spinning lures and plastics.

 Striped bass are taking anchovies and deep diving lures from Casino Row through Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area. Boaters and shore fishermen are both catching fish. Catfish are biting in areas with heavy vegetation.  The rainbow trout bite is slow, but the fish are taking worms and spinners.

The Willow Beach Fish Hatchery plants trout at Willow Beach every Friday year-round. Trout anglers catch the fish with a variety of baits, including worms, PowerBait and lures. Striped bass key in on the trout, so trout imitations are a good choice. Further south, catfish have been hanging in the backs of coves with anglers having the most success at night. Fishing at the ponds has been good for bluegill, bass, and catfish. The best action continues to be in the morning and at sunset. Catfish are taking worms and hotdogs. Bluegill are hitting on worm pieces and PowerBait grubs. Large and small bass are hitting on Rat-L-Traps and plastics.

Anglers had a great weekend as weather cooperated for the monthly Striper Club tournament. Striper boils were popping up all over the lake. Anglers experienced in catching live bait are finding the best action for striped bass. With temperatures cooling during the overnight ours, aquatic vegetation growth should be subsiding soon. Trout and bass are hitting well on a variety of lures and flies, as well as taking PowerBait and night crawlers.

Anglers are finding good action for stripers south of Casino Row. Anchovies and deep diving lures are catching the fish. Striper schools are moving through Big Bend State Recreation Area and along the river to the south. Catfish are biting below the Bend in coves with heavy vegetation. Largemouth are hiding at the mouths of coves and hitting spinnerbaits.
