Southern Nevada Fish Reports

With temperatures cooling during the overnight ours, aquatic vegetation growth should be subsiding soon. Trout and bass are hitting well on a variety of lures and flies, as well as taking PowerBait and night crawlers.

Anglers getting an early start are catching bass and crappie using jigs and small spinning lures. The trout bite is improving as overnight temperatures cool down. Anglers are using spinners, flies, and PowerBait in rainbow sparkle.

Anglers are finding good action for stripers south of Casino Row. Anchovies and deep diving lures are catching the fish. Striper schools are moving through Big Bend State Recreation Area and along the river to the south. Catfish are biting below the Bend in coves with heavy vegetation. Largemouth are hiding at the mouths of coves and hitting spinnerbaits.

Catfish have been hanging in the backs of coves. Some anglers have been catching the fish at night outside of Cottonwood Cove. Light-colored spinnerbaits are fooling black bass but also have brought in catfish. Willow Beach anglers are catching striped bass at the mouth of coves in the early mornings.  Largemouth bass are slow to bite but smallmouth are taking deep diving lures in coves

Fishing for bluegill, bass, and catfish has been good at the ponds. The best action continues to be early in the morning and after sunset. Catfish are taking stink baits and hotdogs. Bluegill love mealworms, green grubs, and night crawler pieces.

Anglers targeting striped bass should find better action jigging in deeper water as weekend temperatures climb back over 100. Despite the abundance of live bait, fish are hitting primarily on artificial lures. Those casting lines before 7:00 a.m. are finding the best action. Lake Mohave striper bite is starting to pick up.Our local angler Kathi Hughart was out fishing on their boat and landed a nice 5.26 pound striper at 26 and 5/8 inches. she was using anchovies fairly close to the dam. She stopped in to let me know that the fishing has been ok for about a week now on Lake Mohave.

Boaters are catching bass and trout. The bass are taking dark colored plastics, crankbaits, and jigs. Rainbow trout are hitting rainbow colored PowerBait or night crawlers. Persistent anglers are limiting out on trout in the morning hours.

Weeds are thick along the shore and the water is down a bit. Anglers are still catching some good bass and trout. Bass and crappie are hitting on jigs near the canyon. Trout are taking rainbow PowerBait and worms fished below a bobber. Anglers are having the best success in the morning.

Catfish are biting anchovies and crankbaits just off the bottom. At Willow Beach, rainbow trout are most active in the relatively cool hours of the morning. The fish are hitting spinners and minnow fly patterns. Anglers are reporting slow action for striped bass when using hardware, but boaters are catching stripers when using anchovies.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife planted catfish at Veterans’ Memorial Park and Sunset Park last week. Lorenzi and Floyd Lamb parks are on the schedule for this week. Bass are hitting plastics in Floyd Lamb. One little guy got his first catfish with his Spiderman fishing pole and some worm pieces. Bluegill are hitting mealworms near shadows about 10 feet from shore.

Anglers are landing some great catches during the cooler times of the day. Black bass are hitting baits in the Overton Arm and Las Vegas Bay. Drop shots baited with soft plastics are catching the fish. Bluegill are hitting worm pieces in Government Wash and in coves near the dam.
