Action Has Been Slow With Warm Temperatures

Aquatic vegetation has made shore fishing challenging for anglers, but there are areas where it is easy to reach open water. Catfish and Stripers Are Most Active Below The Dam

Catfish and stripers are most active below the dam. Fishing is good when the winds cooperate. Night crawlers and anchovies are both catching catfish, while stripers seem to prefer anchovies. The dam and casino areas are seeing the most action. Most of the stripers are in the 1- to 3-pound range. The Big Bend area also has been productive.

Bass Fishing Has Been Good

Anchovies and jointed swimbaits are attracting striped bass at the north and south ends of the reservoir. Night crawlers and anchovies are fooling catfish just 30 feet from shore. Bass fishing is good in and around coves. Both largemouth and smallmouth bass are taking swimbaits. At Willow Beach, trout fishing is good from the fishing pier to the coves just south of the beach areas.

Action Has Been Slow at The Ponds

Action at the ponds has been slow, though bluegill continue to take mealworms, night crawlers and micro lures. The best fishing takes place in the morning. The Nevada Department of Wildlife plans to plant catfish sometime this week.

Stripers and catfish have been keeping anglers busy during the early morning hours in the Boulder Basin. Deep diving Rapalas are bringing in smallmouth bass, stripers and even catfish. The upper portions of the reservoirs opened Aug. 15. Anglers are finding good trout fishing in the early morning. Bass are taking plastic baits at Adams-McGill and Dacey is producing trout for anglers casting spinners and flies.

Boaters Are Having Better Luck Beyond The Weed Beds

Vegetation is presenting shore anglers with some challenges. Boaters are having a little more success beyond the weed beds. Bass are taking plastic worms in dark colors, but crawdad imitations are working best. Rainbow trout are hitting PowerBait in rainbow or green colors with glitter.

Weeds Are Getting Thicker Along The Shoreline

Weeds are getting thicker along the shoreline and the water is getting lower as the summer continues. Boaters are finding good fishing for rainbow trout in the morning and bass later in the day. The trout are taking rainbow PowerBait, as well as the chartreuse glitter varieties. Bass are hitting bright colored frog and crawdad plastics.

Laughlin Fishing Report

Striped bass are cruising the river below Davis Dam and hitting on anchovies or large crankbaits. Most stripers are averaging 1 to 2 pounds. One lucky angler reeled in a catfish weighing 13 pounds below Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area. The angler was fishing with anchovies from his boat at night.

Anglers are reporting good action for smallmouth bass and striped bass while largemouth bass fishing has been sluggish.
