Lake Mead Fishing Report

by AARON MEIER
Striped bass are providing anglers with plenty of action. Swimbait ranging from 3 to 12 inches in length and threadfin shad are catching the fish. Most are averaging between 3 and 5 pounds. Look for stripers in targeting shad near coves in 10 to 25 feet of water. For those seeking largemouth and smallmouth bass, areas near drop offs or the backs of coves between

Anglers have found good fishing for stripers near Davis Dam and downstream near Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area. Anchovies have been the top bait with various topwater lures working well from shore. Many of the fish are in the 1- to 3-pound range. With these smaller fish, a lighter setup with smaller hooks may be necessary to bring them in.

Lake Mohave Fishing Report

Smallmouth and largemouth bass have provided better action lately than stripers. Catfish are active in the coves, mostly at night, and anchovies are catching the fish. Sunfish have been taking night crawler pieces and small jigs in the backs of coves south of Cottonwood. Anglers are finding largemouth in the back of coves and smallmouth hanging on rocky shelves. Drop shot rigs have been effective along with watermelon-colored

Reports are that action is good for smallmouth and largemouth bass throughout the lake. Anglers are finding prime spring fishing time for crappie and black bass in and just outside the Overton Arm, and good fishing for striped bass at Government Wash and around Sand Island. The afternoons are proving to be a more productive fishing time and with the pending new moon, anglers can still

Fishing action was very good this past week for the few anglers who ventured out. Stocked rainbow trout have been taking small spinning lures, various PowerBait colorations and flies. Crappie and bass are still inactive, but with warming temperatures, they should start hitting soon.

There are a lot of great spots that are working well. Weather you are targeting the striper using anchovies or your favorite lure.  I like the bomber long a or some top water action like the cordell pencil popper.  These are just to name a couple as there are a few that work well in our area, or our rainbow trout using spinners is always

I haven’t heard much from up on Lake Mohave as of yet however we expect that to change here soon. I have been getting reports of some fish boils so that being said the lake should also be a hot spot.  The Largemouth Bass are protecting their nests so a good time to practice catch and release so they can keep guard of their young.

Kirch Wildlife Managment Area Report

The campground has been busy, but windy conditions have kept anglers off area reservoirs. A group of anglers that did get out found good fishing for 12- to 15-inch trout; the fish took spoons, spinners, and PowerBait. Another storm system is expected this coming weekend, but fishing is expected to be very productive.

Eagle Valley Reservoir Fishing Report

According to park rangers, fishing was “really awesome” this past weekend. Recent fish plants included both rainbow and tiger trout.  The fish have been quite active. Effective baits include PowerBait in rainbow, orange, or chartreuse colorations and most lures with gold colors. Small Woolly Buggers have been very productive for the fly-fishers.

The action has been very good for stocked rainbow trout, but anglers also are catching some carryover fish. The trout are taking PowerBait, small lures and flies.

Trout are providing the most action below Davis Dam. Anglers are using PowerBait in yellow, green, and orange. Black and yellow Rooster Tails and Li’l Jakes are good lures to throw from the shoreline below Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area. Trout imitations can be effective for stripers. So too can anchovies, and they also will catch catfish.

Lake Mohave Fishing Report

Reports have been light from the lake over the past week with winds likely keeping many anglers off the water. The cooler temperatures these winds bring have affected fishing opportunities. At Willow Beach, anglers are catching catfish with anchovies and striped bass weighing about 3 pounds.

Seasonal trout plants may have concluded, but there are still many fish to be caught in the local ponds. Catfish plants should begin about mid-April. Meanwhile, you can increase your chances of catching fish by changing up your technique. Something as simple as switching baits can make the difference. Or leave your bobbers in the tackle box and fish from the bottom up. Use small
