Southern Nevada Fish Reports

The south end of the lake has been productive with anglers catching stripers from the dam. Anchovies and swimbaits are fooling striped bass outside of Katherine Landing. Anglers fishing out of Cottonwood Cove are finding good fishing for catfish and black bass in coves. Vegetation is getting thick along some shorelines and providing cover for game fish. Work submerged brush in the coves for sunfish.

Anglers fishing during the night time hours are finding fast action for striped bass and catfish. Try anchovies, live shad or jigging spoons beneath a submersible light. Fishing is sluggish during the day, but there are some quality fish coming in at sunrise and just before dark. Black bass are biting on poppers and swimbaits. Trout action has slowed down some over the past week. The arrival of warmer air temperatures isn’t helping, but bass and crappie are still biting throughout the day. Lures have been working better than baits for most anglers, with brown colorations working best.

Boaters are catching stripers with anchovies as well as top-water lures and swimbaits. Willow Beach is giving up double-digit stripers. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are hitting crankbaits and plastics. Catfish are biting between Cottonwood Cove and Katherine Landing.

With nighttime air temperatures holding in the 90-degree range, anglers have found the best action at sunrise and then again in the evening hours. This is the time when many fishermen fish under lights. Whether fishing during the day or night, go prepared with plenty of water and salty snacks. Boaters have found success while trolling for striped bass with gizzard or threadfin shad.

Fishing has been excellent. Rainbows, bass and crappie are hitting on a variety of baits and lures. The rainbows have been actively hitting PowerBait in orange, green or rainbow colorations, as well as night crawlers with a bit of marshmallow.

Black Bass have provided exciting fishing in the coves outside of Cottonwood Cove. Patient anglers fishing near drop offs and underwater vegetation have brought in some good largemouth bass. There have been few reports out of Willow Beach, but those indicate that striped bass fishing is good. The fish are biting swimbaits and anchovies.

Windy weather conditions have kept many anglers off the water. Those who have spent time fishing have been rewarded with good striper action. Several 20-inch stripers have been reeled in with crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps. The best fishing has been found from sunset into the nighttime hours. Spinner baits have been taking black bass in the afternoons.

The action for trout, bass and crappie has picked up with bait anglers using night crawlers or PowerBait doing very well off the dam. The water level is starting to drop, but the lake remains full and weed free.

Striped bass are keeping fishermen busy. The best fishing is taking place in the early morning hours and around sunset. Black bass are taking soft plastics fished on a drop shot, crankbaits and some top-water baits. The water is high, and rainbow trout are keeping anglers busy. The fish are taking a wide variety of baits. Bass and crappie action remains sluggish but should pick up as temperatures grow warmer. The campgrounds are all open.
