The fishing at Willow Beach along the Colorado River has been very good. We have seen some decent action on Striped Bass. Plus we are once again get trout plants so the trout fishing has improved too.

Ice on the reservoir is starting to thaw. There are small patches of open water, but as of Tuesday the ice along the fishing dock was still thick enough for fishing. This past week the stormy weather brought snow and rain and kept most anglers off the lake. Check ice conditions before venturing onto the reservoir.

Anglers are pulling in 3- to 8-pound stripers near Davis Dam. The fish are taking anchovies. The fish seem to be holding along the southern shores of the coves. With the warmer daytime temperatures, anglers have caught some great fish. Striped bass are biting on anchovies and silver-colored shad imitation lures. Anglers have caught some good black bass near Government Wash. Lures like the Mepp’s Aglia silver-blade white tail are catching the fish. Willow Beach, Ariz. – After a three-year hiatus, catchable-sized rainbow trout from Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery (NFH) return to Colorado River waters downstream of Las Vegas, Nevada. The hatchery will release 2,500 rainbow trout into the cold waters below Davis Dam on January 12, 2017. The trout measure up to 12 inches long. Davis Camp and Bullhead City Park will be stocked once more

Thelake level is currently 639 feet above msl. At this elevation reefs and sandbars are exposed so be very careful of rocks just under the surface. Trout stocking has begun and the latest stocking was the week of November 6th. The next stocking is tentatively scheduled for the week of December 18th. Overnight temperatures have dropped as far as -22 degrees, and conditions are good for ice fishing. Park rangers recommend night crawlers, PowerBait, or white and pink jigs. Preparations are underway for the annual ice golf tournament scheduled for Jan. 14. Participants use tennis balls, and plans call for food, drinks and fun. Anglers have found some action for black bass in the Callville Bay area. Striped bass can be taken with cut anchovies though live shad are generally the most productive bait for still fishing. Watch for the birds, they will let you know where to look for baitfish and stripers. Be prepared to fish deep during the daytime hours.

Striped bass moving down the river have mostly been in the 1-4 pound range. Some visitors from up north were able to bring in a few stripers in the 4-5 pound range. Fishing has been best north of Cottonwood Cove and at the end, just outside Katherine Landing.
