Willow Beach Hatchery Update

Striped bass moving down the river have mostly been in the 1-4 pound range. Some visitors from up north were able to bring in a few stripers in the 4-5 pound range. Fishing has been best north of Cottonwood Cove and at the end, just outside Katherine Landing.

With the cold mornings upon us, fishing action has slowed down on Lake Mead. Those that brave the early mornings are been having success with striped bass. Also, shad are plentiful outside Government Wash. Anglers are having good luck with shad imitation lures while fishing for stripers as well.

Dropping temps has left most of the reservoir covered with a thin layer of ice. Some anglers have found a few open spots or broken the ice along the shore line to find some success for rainbows using powerbait or nightcrawlers.

Lake Mohave Fishing Report

The lake level is currently 636.8 feet above msl. This elevation reefs and sandbars are exposed so be very careful of rocks just under the surface. The fishing dock at Katherine's Landing produced some nice fish. The catfish bite is picking up as Scott’s 9.12 pound channel catfish shows. He likes using chicken liver and anchovies if the liver doesn’t get bites.

A little snow and cold temperatures moved in over the weekend leaving some ice along the shoreline. The holiday weekend saw few anglers at the park, but several limited out with 12- to 14-inch fish. For bait fishers chartreuse sparkle PowerBait was the ticket, while lure and fly fishers did well with small spinners and Woolly Buggers.

Catfish have been taking chicken livers and anchovies in and around Katherine Landing while anglers have been catching striped bass and black bass outside of Cottonwood Cove. Coves are the place to be for early morning fishing. Imitation rainbow trout or threadfin shad baits are fooling the fish.

Anglers have found good action right after sunrise. Live threadfin shad can be found outside Government Wash, with stripers lurking nearby. Anchovies have been the most preferred bait, but some fishermen are using imitation shad lures as well. Both catfish and stripers are taking the imitations. Catfish have been found around the Hemenway fishing pier and black bass in shoreline vegetation near Callville Bay.
