Anglers fishing out of Boulder Harbor are reporting good action for striped bass. The best fishing has been found around shad boils with anglers using silver swimbaits and other top-water lures. Our pest abatement dept is stocking trout in hopes to help control the caddis fly population. This has shown to be successful and the traps that will be placed should prove it is working. The Colorado river is also slow we did get one of our local anglers Gene Tofoya brought in a channel cat. He was using anchovies in the community park area and fishing from shore to land this 9.04 cat at 28 and 7/8 inches. He said he was catching a few stripers but again small.

Occasional thunderstorms have cooled the water down and that has improved catch rates for those braving the elements to try their luck. Trout are taking the usual small spinners, such as a Mepp’s in yellow with red dots. Bait fishermen are having luck using night crawlers or rainbow PowerBait.

Trout, bass and crappie continue to bite despite poor weather conditions associated with intermittent thunderstorms passing through the area. Small spinners and jigs have been productive for rainbow trout and crappie while night crawlers and mealworms have been producing for bait anglers.

Look for striped bass boiling on the surface over deeper waters. Top-water baits like the Jumpin’ Minnow or Zara Spook will catch the fish. Action has picked up this past week as temperatures have begun to drop. Anglers have been catching trout with PowerBait or spinning lures. Largemouth bass have been hitting well near the tules and are ranging from one to three pounds.

Anglers venturing out on boats or kayaks have had good success at the north end of the Boulder Basin. Striped bass are generally in the 1- to 3-pound range. Smallmouth and largemouth bass are active around coves. Catfish have been more active at night. With the full moon, night fishing could make for a fun weekend.

The current elevation is 1073.06 feet above msl. which means it has increased by 7.8 inches over the last fishing report. The National Park Service has been working to improve conditions at South Cove launch ramp, but 4x4 vehicles are recommended for launching/retrieving boats.
