Surface water temperatures are in the low  to mid 70’s depending upon time of day and where you are on the lake.  Fishing for trout is still fairly good though shore anglers are having a tougher time.   First thing in the morning they can still be caught fairly close to shore, but by about 9:00 am they start heading to deeper cooler water.  Bass and

The reservoir is full!  NDOW and Barrick planted the reservoir with 5,000 five to six-inch catfish and 5,000 15-inch catfish on Friday, May 31. Expect the fishing for catfish to pick up as the water temperature is in the mid to  high 60’s. Approximately 1100 crappie from Chimney Creek Reservoir were stocked, but anglers are being asked to return any crappie they catch back to

The lake is no longer spilling and NDOW stocked approximately 28,000 trout in the lake right before the 4th of July.  The algae is growing though water quality is still fairly good.  Fishing is good for 13 to 16-inch trout that are in good body condition. The same presentations, flies, baits and lures as used at South Fork, should also work well here. The northeast

The lake is full and fishing for tiger trout has been good.  Fishing the outflowing creek can be productive for brook trout as well. Worms or PowerBait fished just off the bottom should work.  Flies to try include beetles, ants, black Adams, Griffith’s gnats, yellow or red humpies, yellow or red stimulators and small crystal buggers.  The lake was stocked with 3400 trout July 11

Last weekend’s Angel Lake Kid’s Fishing Derby was a huge success with approximately 135 participants plus parents and other family members.  The weather was perfect and quite a few fish were caught with our creel clerk measuring almost 100 fish.  In addition to the winners below receiving a USFS fishing rod, there was a random drawing for the rest of the participants with everyone walking

Very little change here as surface water temperatures are now in the 70’s and while the water is relatively clear for this time of year, phytoplankton is growing staining the water and weeds are coming on strong in the shallow water.  With the warmer surface water temperatures, trout are moving into deeper water and the bass fishing has been good. Fishing for nine to 12-inch fish has been fair to good at Cave Lake.  Most anglers are having luck with small worms, though PowerBait is also catching fish.  Fly rodders should be using small olive or black bead head crystal buggers, small olive wooly worms, hares ears and prince nymphs.  On warmer afternoons if a hatch is seen, small Adams, black ants, Griffith’s gnats, renegades

Fishing here is fair to good for 10 to 12-inch trout and fair for bass. The usual worms, PowerBait, small spinners and flies should all work.  

Trout fishing is slowing with the warmer water temperatures as the fish head to the deeper water in the middle of the lake making shore fishing slow.  Bass fishing is fair to good using minnow imitations and soft plastic grubs.  For trout  anglers should try Panther Martins, spoons, PowerBait, salmon eggs, and night crawlers. Fly fisherman should use wooly buggers, leech patterns, and nymphs patterns

Trout fishing has been fair to good, though mid to late in the day is slow due to warmer surface temperatures.   The usual flies of wooly buggers, prince nymphs, hares ears and chironomid patterns should all work.  When hatches are seen fly rodders should try BWO’s, PMD’s, Adams, renegades, damselfly dries and terrestrials. Small spinners, PowerBait and worms should be effective as well.

 Anglers are having moderate success for rainbow trout early in the day using spinners and worms fished below a bobber. Fly-fishers are using worms, gnats, and Woolly Buggers for trout and crappie. Some areas may have weeds to contend with.

Fishing with grubs, worms and crawdad imitations is working well for bass. Crappie and bass action picks up as temperatures warm up throughout the day. Anglers have been catching crappie on green and brown jigs, and on night crawler pieces fished below a bobber.

This stretch of the river has been hot for striped bass. The average fish has weighed about 2 pounds, and anchovies are a top choice for bait. Lures are working too. Some anglers have been catching fish with the Rapala X-Rap and jointed trout imitations. Catfish have been hitting well around Big Bend and further south.

Anglers continue to find success for black bass, bluegill and catfish in coves throughout the center portion of the lake. Various plastic imitations have been catching striped bass and black bass. Look for the bluegill in coves north of Cottonwood Cove. They are biting on night crawler pieces and small diving jerkbaits.

Bluegill, bass, and catfish are slow to take lures or bait. Catfish are being hooked on stink baits in the morning or at sunset. Processed stink baits are generally a good bet. Bluegill like meal worms and grubs. Spinnerbaits are still fooling bass at Floyd Lamb in the morning hours.

Anglers have shifted to fishing at dawn and dusk to beat the heat. Stripers are hiding near drop-offs with deep water and waiting for bait fish. Though you may see some boils early in the morning. A Zara Spook, Jumpin’ Minnow, Sassy Super Fluke or similar bait will catch boiling stripers. Black bass are active in many coves throughout the Government Wash area. Water levels

The evenings are proving to be a more productive time to be out fishing the Colorado river. Below the Davis Dam the casino area is doing ok with the Arizona side producing a little better in the morning.
