Nevada Fish Reports

 Crappie action really picked up this week with the fish taking Hares Ear nymphs for fly fishers and night crawlers suspended under a bobber for bait fishers.  The trout action slowed down a bit this week, but with the cooler overnight temperatures it should start picking up soon.  

Rainbow trout have been hitting on night crawlers with a bit of mini-marshmallow, as well as chartreuse sparkle PowerBait.  Crappie and bass action has been good with the fish taking spinning lures and small jigs.  

 Anglers continue to catch a variety of fish, though fishing has slowed overall.   Rainbow trout are hanging out around docks and in marshy coves.  Rooster Tails and other spinners are generally a good bait choice.  If you are getting bites and no hooks ups, try switching to worms.  For catfish and stripers, anchovies are the go to bait.   With weather and water levels being unpredictable,

Stripers have been active throughout the reservoir.  Crankbaits, trout imitations and anchovies are catching the fish.  Coves below Willow Beach are producing sunfish and stripers in the 1- to 2-pound range.  Anglers are catching rainbow trout following the weekly fish plants at Willow Beach.  Rooster Tails, L’il Jakes, Super Dupers and Panther Martins will catch the fish, as will PowerBait in various colors.  Rainbow with

 The Nevada Department of Wildlife is scheduled to plant catfish this week at the urban ponds.  There will be one more catfish plant before rainbow trout plants begin.  Those will begin once water temperatures are cool enough to sustain the fish.  Bluegill, bass and catfish are still active and being taken on a variety of baits and lures.  Small hooks with mealworms or chunks of

 Anglers are catching striped bass with live shad.  The baitfish can be found in the Vegas Wash area.  Work the openings of coves and points for the stripers.  The line sides are also taking anchovies and jigging spoons in about 60-80 feet of water.  Some of the larger fish have been caught on swimbait in trout patterns.  

Lake Mohave is not producing much in the way of our stripped bass. There is some large mouth and small mouth bass action.  The coves around the dam and near the power lines are producing some Largemouth Bass while the shelves are having some smallies going after mostly plastics the dark hula tails and the pumpkin color are working well.  The pan fish bite is

Going down river below the Davis dam along the Colorado river near and below the gorge you will find some great pan fish activity.  Pan fish or also called Blue gill, Red ear and Sunfish in our neck of the woods so to say.  Our anglers Joel Pyne (black shirt) and Steve Jansen are showing about 25 they landed from their boat.  These fish are

Opening day is October 1st. Do not have a fishing report for obvious reasons.  You can check online for regulations and to get your fishing and boating permits.  There are very special rules that anglers need to abide by when fishing Pyramid lake.

The Nevada side of the Carson River is open all year to fishing.  The water level is low but a few anglers have caught some small rainbows off the broken dam using salmon eggs and a split shot.

Fishing has been a little slow.  The very early morning bite has been most productive.  The water level has come down 15 feet.  Last day to fish is September 30th, and will remain closed until January 1,2019.

Water levels are a little low, as is usual for late summer, but trout and bass continue to hit well on spinning lures, spoons and flies.  Bait anglers also are doing well with PowerBait or night crawlers. Anglers should soon see some relief from the challenges of aquatic vegetation as it begins to die off with the arrival of cooling overnight temperatures.
