Poles Were Dancing Early!

Poles were dancing early then we looked for Kokanee but got call from a buddy that got a 20 lb, 13 lb, 9 lb and 5 lb fish I pulled lines and bolted to the location. Im not one to chase radio fish or another’s action but glad I did today because as soon as we dunked lines we stretched tight on this lunker! Few pics

The Ranch is Still Hanging in There!

The ranch is still hanging in there with some pretty good reports coming in from down there. Like the Cali side, the Nevada side has benefitted from the cooler weather and the fish have become a little more active. In addition to the patterns that are working upstream, dark lords, prince nymphs, copper johns and soft hackles have also been working on the ranch.

The Early Morning Bite has Been most Productive!

The early morning bite has been most productive off the Cal/Neva point and the Tahoe City shelf area. Average mackinaw has been in the 1-4 lb range with a few in 13 to 15 lb range. Looks like fishing is good at Lahontan Reservoir. Check out the 15 lb. wiper Dante Ray caught last week! He says he caught other fish this day too. One of them even bigger than this using crankbaits and swimbaits.

If you are looking for a quiet place to fish, this is the place for you. Monsoonal storms kept most anglers off the water over the weekend, but action off the dam has been good for the both rainbow trout and crappie.

In spite of the heat we have some great fishing going on. The area below Davis Dam here along the Colorado river is producing some nice trout limits and for our bait anglers its power bait and night crawlers that are working best. Now I am not saying that other baits are better or worse and other types work also but anchovies work really well.

Monsoonal thunderstorms brought rains to the area over the weekend. A wet weather pattern has kept reservoir water level higher than usual. Fishing pressure has been light, but the few anglers who are venturing out are finding the best fishing in the early morning hours. Of late the water has been murky and aquatic vegetation continues to spread.

Monsoonal rains kept most people off the water over the weekend, but those who did try their luck found good fishing for rainbow trout early in the morning. The fish were taking PowerBait, night crawlers with a bit of marshmallow and small, gold spinning lures. Crappie hit the lures as well.

Warm water fish are providing the best fishing. Anchovies are catching striped bass all along the river. Both shore and boat anglers are catching the fish. Live or plastic worms fished along shelves are bringing in smallmouth bass. Rainbow trout are still biting below Davis Dam and around Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area.

Smallmouth Bass and stripers are biting near Nevada Telephone Cove, and Bluegill are taking worms in the vicinity of Placer Cove. Look for black bass in coves near Cottonwood Cove. At Willow Beach, Striped Bass are hitting anchovies or artificial lures. Large swimbaits in trout patterns are bringing in the bigger stripers.

Small bluegill and bass can be seen rising on some of the ponds. They are taking flies, small lures and mealworms. Heavy rains have caused murky water conditions, and that has also kept many anglers at home. The best action can be found in the morning before the temperature reaches triple digits.

Catfish are Eating Almost Anything!

Anglers are finding good fishing for striped bass in the Boulder Basin. The fish are taking anchovies. With high daytime temperatures, the best action can be found in the early morning or evening hours. Catfish are eating almost anything fished off the bottom in coves. Shore fishing for bluegill has been very good around Government Wash.

Get out in the Mornings and You’ll get Some Fish!

Good solid fishing on the Truckee River. Flows have been bumped up a bit, but not much change since last week. Get out in the mornings and you’ll get some fish. Afternoons maybe not so much. It is hot, around 90’ish every afternoon in the Hirsch. Very nice in the mornings. About water temps. Temps will get warm above the outflow of the Little Truckee River.

Fishing has been great over the past week for variety of species throughout the lake. Stripers have been seen boiling in the marina and coves around the lake, biting on Sardines, lugworms, chicken liver, and some lures like kastmasters. Catfish are also biting off shore and down deep towards the island, typically caught using chicken liver and anchovies. Bass have been biting as well
