The algae bloom continues, though with the projected cooler temperatures, it should start clearing soon. The lake is a little over 40% of capacity and the state park boat ramp is still usable, but larger boats will want to use caution. Fishing has been slow for all species. Trollers are having the best luck, but it is still slow to fair for them as well.

The road is in good shape and trout fishing has been fair to good, with bass fishing good for numbers but fair for size. The lake is about 60% of capacity and the boat ramp is usable. The trout are starting to move back up into the water column. The usual worms or PowerBait are both successful here. Small spinners in black and gold, green and gold and black and red are effective. Fly rodders should be using anything olive or with peacock for nymphs and buggers, while red or yellow are the preferred colors for the bodies of dry flies.

TA week and a half ago the water was a bit turbid, but not much algae. Then this weekend as the water hit the mid 60’s an algae bloom came off strong making fishing difficult. Fishing has been fair to good for 10 to 13 inch fish using the usual worms and PowerBait. Small wooly buggers and the usual nymphs such as prince, hares ears and pheasant tail nymphs should all work. Damsel fly nymphs in olive or tan are working as well. Spinners in gold, black or dark green with contrasting spots on them have been working as well.

The water level is still holding here and fishing has been fair to good for bass and fair for trout. Late afternoons and early evenings have been productive with dry flies. Fly rodders should use the usual assortment of prince nymphs, PT nymphs, hare’s ears, small buggers, elk hair caddis, Adams, PMD’s and Griffith’s gnats.

Fishing has been good first thing in the morning for anglers and the water level, while lower, is still good. A few anglers report 20-30 fish mornings starting at sunup and fishing until about 10:00 am. Most anglers have been using worms, PowerBait, and spinners. Hares ears, damsel fly nymphs, sheep creek specials, and olive or black wooly buggers are the ticket for fly fishermen.

Fishing action has really picked up this past week despite some rough weather. According to Ranger Ben Johnson, lots of trout up to 14 inches in length have been taking night crawlers and PowerBait while bass, crappie and trout are providing good action for fly-fishers. They are using black Woolly Buggers with gold bead heads.

Water temperatures are dropping along with cooling overnight temperatures. Bass and crappie are hitting well on spinnerbaits in chartreuse and light green variations. Rainbow trout are taking PowerBait in green or orange, as well as night crawlers.

Anglers are finding some success at the upper marsh for panfish and catfish. Mealworms or night crawlers below a bobber will catch fish.

According to recent reports, striper action has been good at both the south and north ends of the reservoir. Fish in these areas have been a little bigger than those taken in the middle. Anglers fishing out of Boulder Harbor are reporting good action for striped bass. The best fishing has been found around shad boils with anglers using silver swimbaits and other top-water lures. Early mornings remain the most productive time to catch fish. Largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing has been a bit slower. Anglers are catching the fish with a variety of crankbaits. Willow Beach - While the hatchery (Willow Beach) is raising trout for our stocking which will be towards the first part of the year.

Our fishing is still on the slow side. no word from Lake Mohave. the small mouth bass should be doing ok around and on the shelves.
