Last weekend’s fishing was productive. A 21.56 pounder was caught Tuesday by a shore angler. Dago Bay kicked out a pair of 10-pound plus fish over the weekend. Bite has been good all over the lake, although a bit slower than the opening weeks. Jig bite hasn’t been as good as it has been. Trolling, casting spoons and fly fishing bring steady results. Bass and crappie fishing has been slow at Haymeadow and Cold Springs reservoirs. On the other hand, anglers are catching trout in the six- to 10-inch range from the dikes and on the water. Reports are that the action has slowed for both smallmouth and largemouth bass. Some success has come for those who are fishing Senkos on a drop shot rig along the shoreline. Anglers have had moderate success for stripers in the area of Willow Beach with anchovies and trout imitations both working well.

Anglers are finding the best striper action early in the morning and just before sunset though the bite has been a little slow. Rat-L-Traps have been working well. Anglers are finding a lot of bait, especially in the Vegas Wash. That could explain the slow bite. Most of the fish are being caught are averaging around two pounds.

Thanks to late summer rains, the reservoir is full. Anglers are finding success for rainbow trout with rainbow-sparkle PowerBait, salmon eggs, or half-ounce silver jigs with red spots. The campground is still fully open and winterizing is not scheduled for another few weeks.

Striped bass will start moving up in the water column where anglers can find improved fishing at depths between 25 and 40 feet. The ranch is also still hanging in there, there's only been a few anglers on the property this week but they all seemed to do pretty well. The fish are concentrated in the deeper pools and runs just like the other stretches and anglers who are focusing on those areas are doing the best.

Action has improved slightly for the striped bass in the area. Following the trout plants, anglers have found greater success using trout imitation lures to catch the stripers, although anchovies still remain the top bait. Trout are dispersing from the stocking sites and in the area of Sunshine Peninsula, anglers are catching near limits using rooster tails and Panther Martins.
