Nevada Fish Reports

Windy conditions have slowed fishing activity at Willow Beach. Trout fishing has been sluggish though persistent anglers have caught a few fish. Other fishermen managed to reel in catfish, carp and some striped bass while fishing downstream from Willow Beach. At Cottonwood Cove, anglers are finding improved fishing over recent weeks. Threadfin shad have moved close enough to shore that anglers can catch them or reach trailing stripers with surface lures and other baits. Tim Wilson of the Pyramid Lake Marina and RV Park at (775) 476-1156: Lots of wind yesterday and not much fishing. Today (Tuesday), the wind is out of the southwest. They are catching a few by fishing deep.

Valerie, Linda and Patsy at Crosby's Lodge at (775) 476-0400: It was pretty nasty yesterday. The wind finally laid down in the late afternoon and a few boats went out, but no one checked in with any fish. Not much fishing.

Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Fishing has been good. They are not catching a bunch of big fish, but every person is catching at least one good-sized one. We are staying open through the winter due to the year-round season on the section below Hangman's Bridge.

Missy Swain and Shirley at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): We advise you not to launch a boat. We do encourage you to fish from shore over by the dam and be sure to bring a warm coat. We had an unconfirmed report of a 26-pound Channel Catfish caught by the dam.

Fair fishing for rainbow and brown trout to 15 inches in length. Good fishing for smallmouth bass to 8-10 inch inches in length. Dark patterns work the best in the turbid water. Fishing is always good in the stream high numbers of brown trout. Be stealthy when you approach the steam there is no cover.

The Truckee is fishing great. Jan Nemic reports the upper river is producing some nice 14'' to 16'' inch fish. Try using a weighted October Caddis pupa, or a small Cray fish as Trailer, dead drifting both. Pheasant tail have been have been working as well as Copper Johns. Shore anglers have been reporting some action where they can find open water around the aquatic vegetation that chokes the shoreline. Try using white spoons or black and yellow Panther Martins. Jim French, Western Region fisheries biologist, reports fishing has picked up. Good fishing with limits being reported. Water clarity and quality has improved and should really pick up next year.

Fishing has almost slowed to a halt, although a few anglers are finding cutthroat by trolling down to 25 feet.

Anglers have been catching trout with night crawlers or PowerBait, Woolly buggers in brown or olive should also produce bites. Fish have been turning down hardware.

Water levels are very low, but that hasn't stopped a few die-hard anglers who are still catching trout at this Lincoln County water. Fishing for bass and crappie has all but shut down.

Poor to fair is the description of fishing activity near Cottonwood Cove. Between dropping lake levels and windy conditions, fish have been hard to find. Some anglers have found success by trolling anchovies in 30 to 45 feet of water. Artificial lures have not been producing. Most success is coming the early mornings and late afternoon. Anglers have seen improved trout fishing at Willow Beach.

Nighttime fishing has been productive for anglers looking to catch striped bass. The Vegas wash area is still producing fish but things also have picked up along the beaches, at Hemenway and just outside the tires at Lake Mead Marina. Fishing with shad in the early morning has been catching fish, though striper fishermen also have been taking fish with lures and cut bait.
