Pyramid Lake opens for Lahontan cutthroat trout fishing on Oct. 1

If you are interested in the chance to catch an eye-popping trout, Pyramid Lake opens its 2007-2008 Lahontan cutthroat fishing season on Monday, Oct. 1, and will remain open until next June 30. Hobart Reservoir closes on Sunday, Sept. 30

Gene St. Denis: I've been fishing 160 feet deep at Ski Run Shelf. Trolling with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and minnows. Bouncing off the bottom in a serpentine pattern. Catching Mackinaw in the 2-5 pound class.

North Shore Lake Tahoe Fish Report 09-20-07

We have been trolling 80-240 feet deep. We locate the fish on the fish finder and then troll in a "Figure Eight" pattern, bouncing the bottom hard. I've been fishing at the Tahoe City Shelf and Cal-Neva. We are getting 1-9 Mackinaw per trip.

Carson River cleanup needs lots of volunteers

This is a final reminder that Saturday, Sept. 22 is the annual Carson City Kiwanis Club Carson River Cleanup. Kiwanis Club representative Ron Bowman is asking for lots of volunteers to help with the cleanup. He says that there will be more than enough to do for everyone who shows up, and would love to have as many as 150-200 volunteers on that day. Date:

It was 40 degrees this morning (Tuesday). The water is staying nice and clear. Richard Dean caught a 6.9 pound rainbow on red salmon eggs. All of our cabins were full of fly fishermen this last week.

The Truckee is really starting to pick up in both states and it looks like we,ve got a great fall season ahead of us. The best tactics have been to dea drift a variety of nymph and crayfish patterns. Tim's Dead Drift Crayfish, Poxyback Golden Stones, Deep Sherbet an Hares Ear Bottom Rollers, Gold Bead Flashback Pheasant Tails and Copper Johns have been working best.

Fishing is really good at Knott Creek right now! Fish are being caught on a wide variety of patterns. Wooly Bugger and Leech patterns are scoring a lot of fish, especially when fished with a slow sink line. Callibaetis nymphs, Sheep Creek specials and Gold Ribbed Hares Ears are all catching fish. Try fishing midge pupa or scud imitations under an indicator during slower periods.
