Nevada Fish Reports

Valerie, Linda and Patsy at Crosby's Lodge at (775) 476-0400: Fishing has been pretty good but the weather hasn't been good, mostly due to the wind. Few people have been fishing due to the windy weather. There has been a 5-pounder here, and a 5-pounder there. On Saturday, Mike Phillips of Reno caught an 8-pound, 15-ounce (29 inch) Cutt while jigging in his waders.

im Wilson of the Pyramid Lake Marina and RV Park at (775) 476-1156: It blew hard yesterday. Today (Monday) is fairly nice and it looks like it is going to hold. The fishing is about the same as last week. A few being caught. Jigging might be a good alternative: Go down a ways (30-50 feet) to get the big ones (3-4 pounders).

Chris and Jeri Grellman of Sparks of Hog Charters (358-5199): Chris and I went out yesterday (Sunday) for a few hours and we caught 3 fish. It was breezy at first and then the wind and waves got brutal, so we came home.

Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Fishing has slowed down a little. They are picking up a fish, here and there (pan fryers, 9-14 inch rainbows). A nice blue sky today (Monday) and the water is still the same as it has been for the last two months. We are staying open through the winter due to the year-round season

Dennis Dunn, Mark, Rocket and Scott at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: Several limits of 2.5-4.5 pound rainbows have come in to the resort. The browns have not started hitting yet. We have had 11 bucks come in with racks of more than 28 inches.

Fishing is difficult and a bit slow as the water level has dropped and the weeds have increased. Most of the trout are in the canyon in the layer between the deep cold water and the shallower warmer water with more oxygen. Trollers should go very slowly. Get out on the water early in the moring before the wind picks up. Damsels, mayflies, midge patterns and small wooly buggers all work. Flies such as humpies, royal Wulffs and Kaufmann stimulators may make for some good surface action.

Fishing is picking up as temperatures continue to cool off. Small flies, worms and spinners are all working.

With the pike problem, both bass and trout fishing has been poor.

Now that the weather is cooling off, fishing has been fair to good. The usual baits are working.

Fishing pressure has dropped along with the temperatures, but one die-hard fisherman reeled in his five-trout limit in less than two hours. Leon Simon was using small, silver Kastmaster that he reeled in slowly and then let it flutter down so it looked like an injured minnow. Both rainbow and tiger trout are active. Super Dupers, Panther Martins and Mepp's Spinners are good hardware options.

Despite low water levels, anglers can still catch a mess of rainbow trout. Anglers may want to give rainbow PowerBait, small spinners or worms a try.

Anglers have found some success for rainbow trout while fishing below the hatchery at Willow Beach. One fisherman reeled in a 20-inch rainbow that he caught on PowerBait. Some anglers have been reeling in a few fish along the tires outside of Lake Mead Marina and Hemenway Harbor as well as along the beaches. Boulder is low, but the fishing is great. While the aquatic vegetation makes things a bit challenging, anglers that can get out past the vegetation are still pulling in 14-inch rainbow.

Substantial fish kill over the summer. Recently stocked and warm water fish still in fair numbers. While the fishing has been slow, it is expected to pick up later this months as things begin to cool off.

Fair fishing for rainbow and brown trout to 15 inches in length. Good fishing for smallmouth bass to 8-10 inch inches in length. Dark patterns work the best in the turbid water. Fishing is always good in the stream high numbers of brown trout. Be stealthy when you approach the steam there is no cover.

The Truckee is fishing great. Jan Nemic reports the upper river is producing some nice 14'' to 16'' inch fish.
