Nevada Fish Reports

Gene St. Denis: I've been fishing 50-200 feet deep at Ski Run Shelf, Camp Richardson and the Tahoe Keys. Trolling with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and minnows. Bouncing off the bottom in a serpentine pattern. Macks are 2-7 pounds.

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): I've been very busy. We have been trolling 100-280 feet deep. We locate the fish on the fish finder and then troll in a "Figure Eight" pattern, bouncing the bottom. I've been fishing at Cal-Neva, Dollar Point and Sugar Pine Points. Getting 2-9 fish per trip.

A friend and I did pretty well, last week. We each caught about 8-10 fish, working the deeper holes with small flies. Special Note: The West Carson River has Handicapped Access for fishermen at Pickett's Junction (the Intersection of S.R. 88 and S.R. 89 at the edge of Hope Valley).

Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Alpine County planted last Wednesday with some monster planters. Gary Cronhardt of Vallejo caught a 6.4 pound rainbow on green Power Bait. Matthew Nelson, 6 years old, of Vallejo caught a 1.5 pound rainbow on Power Bait. Not much going on. The water is low and warm (in the 70 degrees) and the fish have gone real deep. Lots of jet skis and water skiers.

Norm Budden and Bob "Slick" McCulloch fished late last Thursday afternoon. They did not say how they did fishing, but they did report almost running aground on some rocks just under the surface of the water. ?Į

Don Hettrick and Don Quilici of Carson City and Rich Bachle of Fernley trolled there, last Thursday morning. They reported catching and releasing many small White Bass on every lure that they tried. The also reported that the water level has dropped dramatically.

The fishing is still good, both from shore or in boats. The perch, trout, bass and catfish are all hitting.

Bass fishing has been good, especially along the rocky shore on the north side of the lake. Rubber gear in either very dark or very bright colors is the ticket. Not much change here. Trout fishing is just fair as the trout have headed into deeper and cooler water to beat the heat. Bass fishing is fair to good depending upon what time of day you fish. Fishing is consistent as always, you just need to fish in the early morning to beat the heat. Small flies, worms and spinners are all working.

Like most northern Nevada waters fish during the coolest part of the day, the early morning and fishing should be fair to good. The usual baits are working.

The water level has dropped noticeably in recent weeks. Trout fishing is slow to fair, with only a few die-hards catching limits. Most anglers are catching only one or two fish. PowerBait has been the bait of choice among the lake's trout population. Traditional baits like worms have been ineffective.

Low water and heavy weed growth have put the breaks on fishing at this Lincoln County reservoir. Fish will be holding in shaded, deep water where they can escape the heat.

Trout fishing has picked up at Willow Beach, and rainbow PowerBait has been the ticket. While much of the action has come from stocked rainbows, there have been some reports of several trout topping the two-pound mark. Mackinaw or lake trout fishing has been producing some nice fish for those that have the right gear and knowledge. There are guides available for others. Shore fishing is fair for stocked rainbow trout. Cave Rock was last planted on August 3, 2007.

Fishing has been great early in the morning using fly patterns. Crystal Wooly Bugger and Green Red Throated zonkers have been working as well as sheep creek specials. Fish have been cruizing the shoreline 4' to 5' out. Present your fly's close to the shoreline.

With temperatures still high, evening fishing is your best bet. Fly fisherman have been using damsel patterns and may fly imitations.

The aquatic vegetation will make things interesting, but anglers that can get out past the vegetation are catching 14-inch rainbow.
