Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
Local angler Dale Scott recently landed a nice striper at Rotary Park, along with a rainbow trout, while fishing from shore using anchovies. It's not very common, but our local rainbow trout will bite on anchovies now and then. The striper weighed 4.82 pounds and measured 23 ¾ inches. So far, Community Park is holding up well despite the winds. Anglers are still able to catch

East Walker River Report

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
Haven’t really talked to anyone who’s been hitting up the Rosachi, or the Sceirine lately, so I don’t really have much to report. If you’re heading down there I would expect the best time of the day to be from about 10am to 3pm or so because of the colder temperatures. The last couple anglers I did talk to had the best luck with streamers

Cold nights, warm afternoons on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Cold nights, warm afternoons on the Truckee River. Upper teens in Truckee at night, 40's in the afternoons. Lets look at that.. When it's really cold at night, that's really going to lower the water temps. That will put the fish in the very slow water, frog water as we like to say. You will have to poke them in the nose with your flies. I would

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by RENO FLY SHOP
As is true with most January’s, indicator fishing has been the most effective way to target the LCT. The trout have been moving a lot recently making them a little harder to pin down, and they may not be where you have been fishing the last few weeks, at least not in great numbers. I’ve been targeting beaches with a drop off around 11-14 feet,

The Truckee River has fished well in the last few weeks

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River has fished well in the last few weeks as flows have stabilized after a storm in late December. With clear skies and moderate weather in the forecast, we expect to see good fishing conditions continue. The annual hatch of Blue Winged Olives should begin any day now as we patiently wait.  Nymph fishing has been productive throughout the river with many anglers focusing

Best fishing we have seen out here

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We have finally seen Pyramid slow down after 2+ months of some of the best fishing we have seen out here. While this is probably from multiple factors, the big ones would likely be due to the time of year and the lack of weather. Is there still a chance of having an epic day of catching out here this week? Absolutely, but odds are

Great conditions on the river right now

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We are seeing great conditions on the river right now, with ideal flows along most sections, water temps in the low 40’s to upper 30’s and active fish.  Here in town, we are continuing to see good shots at dry fly fishing around Glenshire Drive using baetis and midges mid-day, as well as good nymphing when hatches aren’t present. The canyon section of the Truckee will have

Shoreline access at Cave Lake is opened to the public

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Dam reconstruction is complete and NDOW is impounding water. Please note that shoreline access at Cave Lake is opened to the public, however recreational opportunities are limited. For more information on Cave Lake, please contact the NDOW Ely Field Office. As the water level rises, the public should not attempt to access the ice on the lake.

The reservoir has a combination of open water and poor ice

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Ice is unsafe on both the north and south lakes. The reservoir has a combination of open water and poor ice. There is limited shoreline access. If anglers attempt to fish the open water from shore, a mix of spinners, nightcrawlers, PowerBait, and a fly behind a bubble should catch fish. Trout from 8 inches to 18 inches are being caught. Comins received 10,043 rainbow trout

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

With the current winds, fishing has been a bit slow. Our visiting anglers were recently out trolling on Lake Mohave. Steve Berczik and Les Kern managed to land a nice 7.46-pound striper measuring 27.5 inches. They were fishing on the Nevada side, just past the power lines. Reports from the Basin area indicate that trolling with an umbrella rig has been productive, while near the dam

First report of 2025 on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
First report of 2025 on the Truckee River. Been doing this blog since about 2007? I don't know where all the years have gone.  The Truckee River is in great shape, mid-Winter. Pretty much snow free all up and down the river. We've had a lot of warm storms, as it's only been snowing high, not river level.  Same old same, nymph 'em, streamer fish 'em on

The reservoir is almost entirely open water, with the rest being covered in very thin ice. These conditions are NOT safe for ice fishing. The southwest shores are all open water. Shoreline anglers are having luck reeling in brown trout and rainbow trout, with brown trout catch rates having gone up significantly since the fall stockings. Spinning lures seem to be getting more hits than
