Topaz Lake: Angler Report

by FISH REPORTS STAFF
Sam checked in with a new report from Topaz Lake. He was fishing on Friday the 13th and got out in the morning before the wind picked up. It was a nice day, with 7 fish landed, the largest weighing 3.4 pounds. He trolled Rapalas in hot steel and black/ gold colors, which were producing well. Eagles were also spotted in the area.

Ice conditions are fluctuating daily

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Reservoir is beginning to ice up and the boat ramp has been pulled. Snow has fallen and more is forecasted within the next week, but warm afternoon temps are keeping the reservoir from completely icing up. Ice conditions are fluctuating daily, and all ice should be considered unsafe at this time.

Finally getting some snow in Tahoe

by MATT KOLES
Finally getting some snow in Tahoe It's stacked up for mid-December. Not much down here in Hirschdale, but we usually don't get too much anyways.  Flows are still great on the Truckee River, and the Winter fly fishing is good. Good all up and down the river. If you fish the Ca side, remember, lows will be very cold at night. You should wait till it warms

The fish have been taking a wide variety of flies and presentations

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The lake has yet to really slow down and this week we are seeing days on par with the most epic November we’ve seen. This fishery will certainly be one to benefit from a storm pushing through, and the low pressure system will likely get these fish on the chew. The one factor to keep an eye on will be the full moon this weekend. During

The Truckee has fished very well this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee has fished very well this week, with quite a few days where we lost count of the fish caught and landed multiple fish in the 20” range. The key to the river this time of year is fishing during the warmer days of the week as well as the warmest points of the day. Focus on slower moving water where seams and bubble lines

The reservoir is around 50 percent ice covered

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The reservoir is ~50% ice covered. The east side of the reservoir toward the dam has the most ice coverage, but is measuring barely 1 inch. These conditions are NOT safe for ice fishing. The southwest shores are all open water. Shoreline anglers are having luck reeling in brown trout and rainbow trout, with brown trout catch rates having gone up significantly since the fall

The lake level has been going up a foot or so each week due to the runoff from the Walker River

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has been going up a foot oor so each week due to the runoff from the Walker River. But compared to last year at this time, the level is down about 8 to 10 feet.  Fishing has been doing well for trollers using flashers  and a crawler or a small spoon. I talked with a couple anglers that caught some nice rainbows

Great first morning for big stripers!

by TODD TYLER
Great first morning for big stripers! Caught right outside the Cottonwood Cove Marina.

Pyramid is still fishing solid, with decent numbers of fish already cruising the shorelines

by THE FLY SHOP
Pyramid is still fishing solid, with decent numbers of fish already cruising the shorelines. Indicator nymphing with Balanced Leeches and midges has been especially successful, as has stripping Popcorn Beetles, Midnight Cowboys, or Pyramid Minnows. Numerous large fish have already been landed this year, and the fishing has been noticeably more consistent than at this time last season! Now’s the perfect time to head out

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
While the bite may have slowed a little bit this week with cold sunny days following a significant drop in lake temps, we have personally seen multiple 20 pound fish caught in the last week by fellow Pyramid junkies.  When the lake gets glassy and the sun is high, the use of sinking lines and smaller flies such as boobies or beetles can be a great

The Truckee River has been benefiting from these warmer days this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee River has been benefiting from these warmer days this week and the fishing has improved considerably compared to last week, when temps were getting just above freezing most days. The one thing these sunny days haven’t helped with is the streamer bite though, which tends to be a bit tougher during days of high sun. But it’s still worth putting some time into

Ice is covering about 80 percent of Comins Lake. Ice thickness varies from 3 to 6.5 inches, with areas of exposed water

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Ice is covering ~ 80% of Comins Lake. Ice thickness varies from 3 to 6.5 inches, with areas of exposed water.  All ice should be considered unsafe. The north lake has had open water as recently as 12/4/24 with anglers actively fishing from shore.  If anglers attempt to fish from shore, a mix of spinners, nightcrawlers, PowerBait, and a fly behind a bubble should catch fish.

Illipah Reservoir is sitting at approximately 90 percent ice covered

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Illipah Reservoir is sitting at approximately 90+% ice covered.  The ice thickness varies from 2 inches to 5 inches. There are areas of poor ice quality in the middle of the reservoir and along the western shoreline.  Anglers should use safety equipment (ice cleats, picks, etc.), especially during early ice season. Anglers fishing through the ice will do will jigging with nightcrawlers, PowerBait, and a variety of

Breaking a cold snap on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Still very cold at night, but warming up some in the afternoons. Will probably stay like this until we get some weather again, maybe mid-month. Good news, flows are really great for December. Typically the river is pretty low around now. 430 cfs, and over 500 out East is really good for us.  What's that mean for fishing? Well, nymphing you'll always get some. Streamer fishing

Winter is starting to set in

by SPRING VALLEY STATE PARK
Well it looks like old man winter is starting to set in! Currently most of the reservoir's shoreline is covered with a thin layer of ice. Fingers are crossed that it continues to build and we can have a great ice fishing season. #nvstateparks #vistlincolncountynv #ndow #icefishing

The reservoir is trying to freeze

by WILD HORSE STATE RECREATION AREA
Good morning everyone! We hope you had a safe and happy Thanksgiving! Just a bit of an update, the reservoir is trying to freeze. There is a layer of ice over most but not all of the reservoir due to the single digit temps over the past few nights. It will be above freezing over the next several days, so we will see what sticks

So far this season has been nothing short of fantastic

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
I know you’ve heard us say it over the last few weeks, but so far this season has been nothing short of fantastic. We are hearing “The best November ever” thrown around a bit and we have a hard time disagreeing. Most of the employees in the shop have been getting out on a weekly basis and have been consistently landing fish over 15 pounds

The Truckee River continues to fish well

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee River continues to fish well as most of the brown trout finish their spawn and look to recover lost calories. During the overcast days of last week, we saw a fair streamer bite for those willing to put in time. As well as some good dry fly-fishing east of Sparks. With the subfreezing temps in the mornings, the fishing will be best after
