Fishing is excellent in the winter months

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake is open all year long now, for those that have not heard. Fishing is excellent in the winter months. I troll with an F3 or an F5 Rapala in a hot steel or gold and black pattern. I also use a lead line with a 30 ft leader of 8 lb clear blue Stren line with a small snap on the end, without

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Illipah Reservoir is ~95% ice covered. The ice thickness varies from ½ to 2 inches, with areas of exposed water.  All ice should be considered unsafe. Although warmer temperatures are predicted, it is unclear if the ice at Illipah Reservoir will open.  If it does open up, try nightcrawlers, PowerBait, spinners and wet flies behind a water bubble for a trout bite. A total of

20.28 lb. Striped Bass

by RUSTY
Exciting news from Lake Mohave! Local angler Raul Gonzalez made an impressive catch while fishing from shore. Raul landed a massive striped bass weighing 20.28 pounds and measuring 38 ¾ inches. Using a lure, he reeled in this beauty just upriver from Katherine Landing. Raul mentioned that it was too windy to take his boat out on the lake, making this his biggest shore catch

Fishing Will Be Good on the Truckee!

by MATT KOLES
Winter fly fishing on the Truckee River.  Cold at night, not too bad during the days. Frog water time. Fish water that's about 2-5 feet deep. Slow walking pace water. My favorite way to cover that water is with a streamer. Winter, we catch most of our biggest fish on the Truckee River. That and Spring.  The water will be warmer and the fishing typically better down on the

Trout fishing is fair to good and should continue into the ice fishing season

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Trout fishing is fair to good and should continue into the ice fishing season. Fall trout stocking occured 11/5/24. Trout will continue to bite on worms, PowerBait or flashy spinners. Fly anglers can try streamer or leech patterns. Best fishing will be from a float tube, kayak or other small watercraft due weedy shorelines. Expect bass fishing to be slow for the remainder of the

Trout fishing has been good with the cold and wet weather patterns coming through

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Trout fishing has been good with the cold and wet weather patterns coming through. Try small, flashy lures like Panther Martins. Dark-colored streamers and leeches are producing catches for fly anglers. Zebra midges are also working well. Special Regulations: Artificial lures only, no wading.

Trout fishing is picking up with the cool weather

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Water levels remain good, and boats can still be launched at the ramp. Boaters should use caution backing in trailers, however, as large rocks sit right off the bottom of the ramp. Water clarity is at 10+ft.  Fall trout stocking occured on 10/28/24. Trout fishing is picking up with the cool weather and fish are moving into the shallows. Try fishing worms and PowerBait fished

No news this week

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
We didn’t get any news back from the ranch this week but when we do we’ll pass it on.

Lots of action with nymphs and still a little action with streamers as well

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
Well, that’s a wrap. The regular season is now closed until April 26, 2025. The Nevada side of the EW is still open all year long and as of late has been fishing pretty well, there is lots of action with nymphs and still a little action with streamers as well. The Sceirine section, Rosachi section and the Elbow section are all open. The weather

It’s been an interesting year from shore already

by RENO FLY SHOP
It’s been an interesting year from shore already. We are catching fish in much shallower water than in previous years. Typically the LCT are down in 12-15 feet of water this time of year, but we have caught quite a few fish in 6-8 feet of water. The indicator bite has also been good this early season, which is also atypical. To round out the

Colder storms have really dropped the river temperature

by RENO FLY SHOP
The brown trout spawn seems to be winding down (at least in town) on the Truckee River. We have seen quite a few redds that no longer have fish on them. Interestingly, the streamer bite seems to have turned back on with larger browns becoming players again. Colder storms have really dropped the river temperature. Just recently the temp bottomed out at 41 degrees (Sparks Gage)

Large and smallmouth were located a bit deeper on points and bluff walls

by CHAD BURTON AND CHRIS BORDEN
Pyramid Lake remained at full pool, and water temperatures were near the mid-sixties. High winds made for challenging conditions early in the week. Luckily weather conditions improved. Large and smallmouth were located a bit deeper on points and bluff walls. Drop shot, Ned rigs, and grubs in Aaron’s Magic, Orange Crush, and Margarita Mutilator worked for bites. The deep diving crankbait bite should materialize soon.

Head Out ASAP for Pyramid Lake Trophy!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We stand by what we said last week, November is the new March! If you’re after a Pyramid Lake trophy, then you should be heading out here ASAP! The number of large fish seen this already this year, let alone this week has been exceptional. Even better, the crowds that this lake has become known for have been relatively non-existent lately and give you some

The River Continues to Kick Out Great Fish!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The main river continues to kick out some great fishing this week as the browns begin to finish up spawn and the post spawn bite starts up. This is when fishing streamers will really pick up, especially with the mix of overcast days in the forecast and the fish beginning to transition into tail outs. As is typical for this river, especially this time of

Comins Lake Report

by FISH REPORTS STAFF
On Friday, I stopped by Comins Lake to check out the conditions. There were a few people out enjoying the day, fishing along the shoreline. Despite the chilly weather. Notably, ice had started to form on the north side of the lake, signaling the onset of colder temperatures, and signs of the upcoming winter season beginning to appear.

The striper bite along the Colorado River below Davis Dam is going strong

by RUSTY
Our local angler, Dale Scott, landed a nice striper while fishing from shore in the Rotary Park area. He was using anchovies as bait, which have proven to be highly effective for catching stripers in this region. Besides anchovies, there are other great bait options such as shrimp, squid, mackerel, nightcrawlers, and shad. This doesn’t even include the wide variety of lures and swimbaits available

Topaz Lake Angler Report

by FISH REPORTS STAFF
Sam checked in with us from a trip to Topaz Lake: Made a trip to Topaz on November 8th  and enjoyed success with beautiful, calm weather. We got six fish today on Rapalas (5 rainbow, 1 cutthroat or bow/cutt). Not too sure which, but definitely not a rainbow. Also got to view a pair of bald eagles in a west shore tree. Fun trip.
