Nevada Fish Reports

The Truckee is in fantastic shape through both Nevada and California

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee is in fantastic shape through both Nevada and California. Flows on the Truckee are stable and should remain so as we move into late October. Currently the Reno gauge shows flows hovering at 350 cfs.  Rainbow and brown trout are on the move. With cooling water temperatures, anglers are finding success in slower paced water. While some fish are moving into their autumn haunts,

The lake level has dropped a few feet over the last few weeks

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has dropped a few feet over the last few weeks. The NDOW has planted 10K ponds of catchable trout over the last month. Fishing has been good for boaters using Rapalas or flashers and a crawler. I would also try a Roostertail or Panther Martin spinner about 100 ft behind the boat on monofilament. Now make sure you use a ball bearing

We have some exciting news this week!

by RUSTY
We have some exciting news this week! Our local angler, Zachary Meyer, took a trip to Lake Mohave on Cornman's boat, captained by Mark Osgood. They were trolling near the power lines, and Zachary was using a swim bait when he hooked a fantastic striper. This impressive fish weighed in at 7.32 pounds and measured 28 and 1/2 inches. Currently, there's a fishing tournament happening on

South Fork Reservoir Report

by SOUTH FORK STATE REC. AREA
We're still dealing with an unfortunately persistent blue/green algae bloom in parts of the lake due to the on-going warm weather, but on the bright side, over the course of this last week, our friends at Nevada Department of Wildlife have stocked nearly 30,000 rainbow and brown trout for your future fishing enjoyment. #nevadastateparks #trout #fishing

Great Fall fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Great Fall fishing on the Truckee River. Bummer, Niners lost, but at least the Eagles lost also.  Pretty good flows, nice warm weather. Little too warm for the streamer and dry fly fishing, but nymphing is off the hook, no pun intended. Looking like Indian Summer this week, so probably more of the same. Week after next looks like we will get in the 40’s. Enjoy

Anglers are encouraged to report their catch and help our biologists evaluate the success

When in Rome...Jig

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
Right from our stormy start up until now, we are methodically picking off excellent trout on the jig. Without going too into detail on exactly how we do it, just know we go big and ugly and it pays off. We have spent many years refining this early season technique to reach the LCT’s in the early season, and it’s one of those things you

The surface temps at Pyramid continue to drop

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The surface temps at Pyramid continue to drop and its just a matter of time before we begin to see fish caught off the shore with good consistency. As of now, most fly anglers are using float tubes, pontoons or boats to help them find the fish that are still a bit too far and deep to be caught off a ladder or a rock.

Tuesday night brought the first small dusting of the year

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Tuesday night brought the first small dusting of the year. The light snow quickly melted from our streets and sidewalks but left a thin coat along the crest. It is incredible see the first snows of the fall season beginning to lay cover down over the deep pockets of ice and snow remaining from the season prior. In the time we’ve been here, never have

Flows are starting to pick up with cooling temperatures

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Flows are starting to pick up with cooling temperatures. As of 10/13 the Bruneau River at the Rowland gage is showing 14.5 cfs. Water temps are also seeing a steady decline. This should keep trout fishing fair to good until winter weather cuts off access.

As of 10/13 the creek was flowing at 11.2 cfs

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Lamoille Creek flows remain in good shape. As of 10/13 the creek was flowing at 11.2 cfs.

Cold Creek Reservoir is still at 75% of capacity

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Cold Creek Reservoir is still at 75% of capacity. Water temperatures are in the mid-50s. Angers can expect to catch 8-to-10-inch rainbow trout and tiger trout.  With cooler water temperatures, largemouth bass catch rates have begun to slow down.  Although harvest is still allowed, anglers are encouraged to catch and release bass caught until their population is well established in the lake.

Water temperatures continue to drop at Comins Lake, with an average water temperature of 53

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Water temperatures continue to drop at Comins Lake, with an average water temperature of 530F.  Water clarity has steadily improved through late summer and early fall. Subsequently, trout fishing has improved with anglers catching 16-to-20-inch rainbow trout.  The trout are exceedingly healthy, with 16-inch trout reaching approximately 1.75 pounds and some 20-inch trout topping the scale at 4.5 pounds.  Bait fishermen should have luck with

Illipah Reservoir is still near 90 percent capacity

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Illipah Reservoir is still near 90% capacity.  Water temperatures are sitting at 540F.  Water clarity is excellent with weed mats beginning to drop off for the year.  Shoreline fishing has been productive this fall with anglers using PowerBait, spinners, and night crawlers.  Anglers can expect to catch 8-to-10-inch rainbow trout. A variety of night crawlers, PowerBait, and spinners should produce trout for anglers.

We're still experiencing a fantastic striper bite below the Davis Dam on Lake Mohave

by RUSTY
We're still experiencing a fantastic striper bite below the Davis Dam on Lake Mohave. The fishing has been a bit slow lately, but some anglers have had success trolling with hard baits. Our local angler, Charles Viajar, recently caught a sizable striper with a noticeable big belly. He was fishing from his kayak using a swim bait below the Riverside bridge. This striper weighed in

Fishing Report October 10 2023

by PYRAMID LAKE FLY FISHING
Pyramid Lake opened with a bang, tons of big fish were caught, and it appears as though the 30 pound mark may have been broken. We saw lots of fish over 20 pounds and plenty of numbers as well. The weather was a little cooler than normal and the worries about the conditions soon were squashed by hungry fish chasing minnows.     The biggest downside to the

Great solid fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
October’s a great month. Little warm this weekend for the clinics, but now looks like we’ll be getting some old fashioned October mountain weather. That means you have a solid month of really good fishing on the Ca side, and all winter on the Nevada side. We get our days here in Ca in the Winter, but Nevada is where it’s at in the Winter. If

The Pyramid Lake season is off to a terrific start

by RENO FLY SHOP
The long awaited Pyramid Lake Opener for the 2023-2024 season has finally arrived, with spectacular fishing closely following. While the first day of the season (October 1) was windy and wavy, the days following allowed anglers to get out and fish more effectively. The last few days have fished very well at Pyramid Lake and we anticipate these conditions to continue with the moderate temperatures
