The bite from the shore is slowly starting to pick up

by PYRAMID LAKE
The bite from the shore is slowly starting to pick up. However, we expect the bite to really switch on in the weeks to come as the Truckee dumps ever colder water into the lake. November is historically a great month to fish Pyramid Lake. Relatively mild air temperatures and productive fishing make it one of our favorite times to be out there. Pretty soon

This past week saw a few tough days on the river

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
This past week saw a few tough days on the river as the cold water spurred the fish to seek new feeding lanes. We found ourselves working a little harder than usual to find the fish. However, those who were able to find them were rewarded with some quality rainbows and browns. There were reports of browns up to 27” and numerous rainbows from 20”

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has dropped a few feet. The Douglas County camp/day use and boat ramp is open all year. The fishing has been good for catchable rainbows as well as a few in the 2-3 lb class. Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
We've been catching some of our larger stripers along the shore of the Colorado River. Local angler Charles Viajar recently had a successful fishing outing downriver near the Parkway Bridge. He was in his kayak, using a Youzari Minnow to land some nice-sized stripers. These stripers varied in size, with the largest weighing 10.68 pounds and measuring 30 and 1/4 inches, the second one at

It's Almost Time, Break Out The Ladders

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
This month we have been strapped in riding a roller coaster of weather patterns portraying that once again, quality over quantity is always preferred.  As we slide off a warm high pressure system with fish spread all through out the water column and a low pressure cold front hitting us now we will be putting the watercraft awayin the next couple weeks and gearing up

On-the-Water Report | Pyramid Lake and Truckee River

by RENO FLY SHOP
Here is Mike Anderson with your On The Water Report Pyramid Lake. The lake is now at 59 degrees. Fish are coming in shallow and are sitting from 8-22 feet. Stripping has been the best method from shore, which has started to get better. The Truckee River is fishing well and the brown trout are all colored up and getting close to spawning. Smaller nymphs, crayfish, and

The bite at Pyramid is slowly improving

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The bite at Pyramid is slowly improving. While the average fly angler may not be seeing great numbers quite yet, the size of the fish is enough to keep most people coming back. We expect to see quite a few fish this year in the same size class as the 31-pound 6-ounce fish caught on opening week. As this fishery continues to improve year after

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The fishing on the Truckee has been nothing if not consistent. The dry fly bite along Glenshire Drive, while maybe not happening every day, can be present mid-day into early afternoon and provides a great opportunity to catch fish on top on the Truckee River, an admittingly rare treat on our river system. When hatches are not present here focus on smaller flies fished subsurface

10.22 lb. Striper

by RUSTY
The striper bite has been a bit slow, with smaller 1-to-3-pound fish taking the bait first. However, we've seen some larger fish coming in this time of year. Local anglers Mike and Mitch Jones, the twins, were able to land a nice-sized striper weighing 10.22 pounds and measuring 32 and 1/2 inches in length. They were trolling in the Parkway Bridge area. There's also some good

Little swing in the weather on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Pretty warm and sunny last week, but this week looks like old fashioned Truckee Fall weather. The change will usually get them trouts feeding. Look for the streamer fishing to improve this week, the dry fly fishing and everything else. Flows are pretty good, about 400 cubes here in the Hirsch, and not much difference all the way down river. Flows are pretty good out on the Little

The lake is in a transition phase right now

by PYRAMID LAKE GUIDES
The last storm dropped the surface temps clearing out the bait balls to deeper water. Reports have been slow from shore, with boaters and float tubers having better luck. The lake is in a transition phase right now, shore fishing will improve once more winter storms roll in and water temps drop below 55°. Crossing our fingers for more bad weather!

Fly fishing at Pyramid Lake has improved following a seasonal turnover

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fly fishing at Pyramid Lake has improved following a seasonal turnover. With the cooler weather we received in early October, the surface of Pyramid Lake cooled off. This cold surface water sank to the bottom (being denser than warm water) and resulted in the upwelling of algae. This turnover has since settled and fishing conditions have improved drastically. With cooling water temperatures, shore anglers have had
