Nevada Fish Reports

Baily is fishing excellent and has been stocked several times this season.  The most consistent way of catching fish at Baily is salmon eggs under the bobber. Fly fisherman slowly retrieving peacock bodied nymphs will find fish just about any time. Trout fishing will continue to be good until water temperatures really climb. After that, anglers should find excellent green sunfish fishing through mid summer.

Flows have come down significantly over the last few weeks but still have a little ways to go before it’s prime. While flows are up, try larger wet flies and lures in bright colors during the brightest part of the day or black early and late. Fishing has been good at Lahontan. Spin fisherman using jigs and spoons and fly fisherman using bright streamers are still consistently finding fish. Just a few reports from way back from the opener, lots of smaller fish showing up. Averaging 10 inches with a few as large as 15 inches. Fishing should remain good through fall.

I cant believe that I’m reporting that walleye fishing continues to be good, but has to slow down soon. Most walleye are ranging 17-23”. Night crawlers under a bobber or carp cut bait from shore.  Boats have been trolling rapalas or worm harnesses in close to shore. Its been an excellent year at Chimney, one for the record books. Fishing has been fair. The average size trout has jumped significantly over the last two seasons. Larger fish in the 17-22 inch range are starting to show up again more consistently. Insects have been prolific. Midge, mayflies, and damsels are hatching in strong numbers throughout the day. Large leech patterns on sinking lines can often save the day here in the mid-summer heat. Bilk has had a few tough years but should improve this fall with stocking. There are still a few bass in the lake, but the trout should be the main catch when temperatures come down a little. Warms are a great all-around bait off the bottom, or under a bobber for both the bass and trout.

Water levels are in great shape with the South Lake and Dike Units. Bass fishing is fair to good in unit 21 and off of Brown Dike. The lake is full with most anglers fishing from the dam or in a few cleared beach areas.  Kayakers and float tubers are having success on the west side of the lake against the rock walls. Good catch rates for trout in the 8 to 10 inch range, with opportunity for fish up to 19″. Green PowerBait, worms and small spinners are producing fish. Fly

Best trout fishing is in the early mornings or evenings with water temps peaking in late July and early August.  Fish are averaging 16″- 18″.
