Fish Reports

Surface water temperatures have dropped into the low 50’s and trout fishing is good.  Trout are averaging 14 to 18 inches in size.  With all the weeds, look for open channels where the trout are congregating, but with the colder temperatures the weeds should start receding.  Trout are hitting both chironomids and leech patterns for fly anglers.  They do tend to head for the weeds,

Water levels here are recovering from seasonal irrigation lows and surface temperatures are in the low 50’s.  Fishing has good for eight-to-14-inch rainbow trout and fly rodders report 20 to 30 fish days for smaller feisty trout.  A few brown trout are also being caught.  For bait anglers nightcrawlers and rainbow PowerBait are the best bet. Steptoe Creek is flowing well below normal due to the drought and fishing is difficult except in the pools and springheads. Small dry flies are the way to. As of October 26, Steptoe Creek was flowing at a very low 1.74 cfs which is about 30% of normal.
