Fall fly fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Good fishing and great weather. Maybe a little too great with the weather, lol. High’s in the low 70’s, perfect blue bird days. Us fly anglers, always like some clouds and rain. I’ll take this weather any day though, soon it will be cold. Flows have just dropped some out of Boca Reservoir. 388 cfs here in Hirschdale this morning. Down from 450 cfs, last week.

The ranch has been fishing well

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The ranch has been fishing well, the water clarity is a bit better down there compared to the upper mile on the California side. Dead drift crayfish, razor craws, sculpzilla, soft hackles, copper johns and prince nymphs have all been doing well up there.

Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report & Forecast

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
With the opener for Pyramid happening today (10/1) -  we will be switching gears on our weekly reports and from here on out we will no longer be reporting on our local still water fishing and focus on this amazing fishery once again. We are now in another exciting season at Pyramid Lake, and while in all truth the opener isn’t quite as significant for the

Pyramid Lake Opener October 1st

by DOUG BUSEY
Have some patience, anglers. The lake will be opening October 1st for fishing. A state license is not required, but a tribal permit is. I recommend going to the Pyramid Lake website to read the rules and regulations for fishing the lake. You can obtain all your permits online for camping and fishing. I would also recommend getting a little heavier gear. Our last trip

The lake level is still plunging downward

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level is still plunging downward. The county ramp is open for launching. With the colder day time temps. The fishing has started to pick up for angler trolling Needlefish or Rapalas. Blades and a crawler have also been productive. Remember that the lake will not be closing in October. The lake is open year round for anglers.

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
Our local angler Bryon Kilgore was fishing from shore here along the Colorado River below the Davis Dam and landed a couple of stripers. He was using a rooster tail and fishing from the end of Park Street. These striped bass are on the larger side of what most anglers have been landing. Mostly the stripers have been in the 1-to-3-pound range even up on

Catfish and stripers have been biting throughout the day

by PYRAMID LAKE STAFF
Catfish and stripers have been biting throughout the day around the lake on various cut baits such as anchovies or sardines, lugworms and mackerel with a heavy sinker  and a longer leader to endure the windy conditions and water flow in the lake. Steeper ledges and walls have been great areas to target along with coves around the lake for  both catfish and stripers. Anglers

Lots of good nymphing and some good streamer action

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The reports we’ve heard from the ranch are much like the California side, lots of good nymphing and some good streamer action thrown in. Much the same patterns seem to be working on the Nevada side as on the Cali side. There’s openings on the ranch, if you’re interested just give us a call.

Great fly fishing on the Truckee River This Week

by MATT KOLES
Kinda don’t get much better. Perfect Fall weather, good fishing. Cold in the mornings, nice in the afternoons. This is the time when a fly angler can fish just about any rig you want.  Streamers, yes, dry dropper, yes, tight line, yes. Straight dry fly fishing? Well, you never know. Trouts are spread out, and just about in every water type. They’ll usually sit in the

The Truckee continues to have cold water and good flows

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee continues to have cold water and good flows along the canyon stretch and the fishing pressure remains light. With a lack of a significant hatch around, the fish are taking a variety of bugs. It’s a good idea to have a wide selection of patterns at your disposal to see what they are keying in on that day. We’ve seen stoneflies, BWO’s, PMD’s,

Pyramid Lake Opener October 1 2022

by RENO FLY FISHING OUTFITTERS
The lake opens for the 2022-2023 season on October 1st. Only a week away. The pre-season forecast looks great. We are having somewhat normal weather; the water conditions are really good and we should be in for a fantastic start to the season. Early season at the lake is really different than what most people think about when coming to Pyramid. There are a lot of

Truckee River Fishing Report

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Water Conditions Low flows out of Lake Tahoe have the Truckee River warming up to the low sixties during the day. Over the next month — the cooler temperatures at night should help bring the water temperatures down even more. Cooler water will help the fishing improve with hatches of caddis and blue winged olives. The current best areas to fish are below Boca reservoir to

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
It’s striper action and Community Park has been giving anglers some great success on landing fish. Our local angler Ray Macmillan landed a 7.52 striper at 29 and 1/4 inches. He was fishing from shore using one of his favorite swim baits. I have been getting reports that anchovies have been producing a few in the 1-to-3-pound range.  These fish are being caught in various

What a great September for fly fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
What a great September for fly fishing on the Truckee River. Little glitch in the system on the first week of the month, with the heat and the fire. Now it feels more like late October, not September. We had a good soaker, heavy rain here in Truckee. It hardly every rains like this in September here. What a blessing. It couldn’t have come at a better

Give is a call if you want to book some time on the ranch

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
We had a few anglers on the ranch this week but unfortunately didn’t get any news back from them about how they did. I’d expect the patterns should be the same as on the California side, maybe with an emphasis on the crawdad patterns. I think running a dry/dropper down there should also be pretty good for a while longer. Give is a call if
