For safety reasons and to expedite the rebuilding of the dam, the lake is being drained and anglers should avoid this lake. Water being drained will be diverted to Comins Lake and if conditions allow, NDOW will be performing a fish salvage moving the fish from Cave and taking them to Comins Lake. Shorelines will be very soft and dangerous due to the complete saturation

Surface water temperatures are in the low to mid 40’s depending upon time of day and cloud cover. Fishing has been slow for bass but good for 14 to 17-inch trout. Anglers will catch trout on nightcrawlers, spinners, nymphs and wooly buggers. Chironomid patterns under an indicator are effective here this time of year. Bass fishing is slow. Surface water temperatures are in the low to mid 40’s here as well and fishing has been good. Best flies right now are leech or wooly bugger patterns. Fly rodders will also do well on bead head pheasant tails, wooly buggers, chironomids and parachute Adams. Spinners, PowerBait, and nightcrawlers will do well for the spin casting crowd.

With recent trout plants, anglers are having better-than-average success in the mornings. Rooster Tails, olive nymphs, and Woolly Buggers are generally productive. Thin ice is starting to form along the shoreline in the mornings. As the ice thaws throughout the day, the edges remain muddy.

Willow Beach anglers are finding good action for rainbow trout. Try a combination of PowerBait and night crawlers or your favorite spinner. Katherine Landing is a hotspot for large striped bass. Anglers are experimenting with topwater lures, Rat-L-Traps, and swimbaits in shad patterns. Black bass are attacking soft plastics on Ned rigs in green pumpkin and watermelon red.

Las Vegas Urban Ponds

The Nevada Department of Wildlife stocked rainbow trout at Cold Creek, Floyd Lamb, Sunset, and Veterans’ Memorial Park ponds. Anglers have had success using rainbow PowerBait and night crawler pieces. The stocked rainbows are averaging about 8 inches in length. Anglers out on warm afternoons are catching bluegill and catfish at Floyd Lamb and Sunset parks using sliced hot dogs and night crawlers.

We are having some great striper activity here along our shores and some by boat. Here below the Davis Dam some of the best fishing is going on. We have rainbow trout coming to us weekly thanks to the Willow Beach Hatchery. The striper bite has remained active. Our local angler Brandon Stark was fishing in the Rotary Park area and landed near a limit
