Water clarity has improved and the new fresh water that fell on the lake and came in from the river and tributaries has mixed making much more favorable conditions for the trout to go on their bite. Truckee River has cleared up and flows are just above average flow

The big Truckee River has cleared up and flows are just above average flow at the downtown Reno gage. These flows, just over 400 cfs, are great levels to access some of the less fished spots on the river. The fish have more than enough water to move around but are concentrated in typical spots to be able to find. Bugs have also been somewhat predictable

Water levels are steady. Aquatic vegetation is starting to decline, but windy days are pushing lines around. Overnight temperatures are below freezing. Rainbow trout action has been good from a boat. Fishing has been good for rainbow trout

Fishing has been good for rainbow trout. Anglers using kayaks or floatables to fish beyond the shoreline vegetation or those fishing from the dam are getting most of the bites. The fish are taking PowerBait in rainbow, orange, or green colorations, as well as Mepp’s spinners and Rooster Tails.

The striped bass bite has slowed down on the river. Small fish in the 1-pound range are taking anchovies in some areas, but anglers are struggling to catch a 10-fish limit. Rainbow trout plants continue at various locations along the river, providing ample opportunities for a hook-up. PowerBait, Panther Martin lures, and flies are all catching fish.

Reports of striper boils are coming from the south end of Mohave

Willow Beach boaters are jigging or trolling to catch striped bass. Trout-pattern lures are producing the most consistent results. Reports of striper boils are coming from the south end of Mohave near Katherine Landing and Davis Dam. The fish are hitting topwater lures and jerkbaits thrown just outside the boils. For a black bass bite, try Ned rigs in green pumpkin, swim jigs, or Rat-L-Traps.

Callville Bay and Echo Bay areas are hotspots for black bass. Jigs, crankbaits, and Ned rigs are all tempting fish, some weighing more than 2 pounds. Striped bass boils have slowed. Boaters are having moderate success casting shad-look swimbaits. Anglers targeting catfish are catching fish as large as 5 pounds when using chicken liver in weedy coves after sunset.

The trout fishing is doing very well here along the shores of the Colorado River.This is mostly due to our federal hatchery the Willow Beach Hatchery which is supplying us rainbow trout. The trout are raised in raceways at the hatchery and brought to us for a few months every year. the stocking sites are Davis camp our Community park and Rotary park. So below the Davis dam we have a great fishery and the season is on. Our local anglers are having great success using various techniques. Spinners and trout jigs are producing well along with night crawlers and power bait. Our local anglers Mark Kuchczynski and Ron luck landed their limit at Rotary park using spinners and a trout jug in the cricket pattern. While Gerry Ward landed his limit at community park using a trout jig with a green tail. I have gotten word that in the community park area a few of the larger stripers have been spotted and supposedly landed in this area so I do hope to see a couple of these lager fish . Up on lake Mohave there have been a few small mouth bass landed in the 4 to 5 pound range using various plastics like the z-mans ned
