At last report, there was 10 inches of ice, but with the warming trend anglers may find the water level rising a bit creating a ring of water around the lake. The wind and warmer temperatures have opened up a large amount of water and there is now more open water than ice. There is also a ring of water around the ice in the north end of the lake and the ice is gray and rotten. Stay off the ice! Cold Creek Reservoir is now at minimum pool due to outlet structure repair being done by Kinross. There is very little water and it is covered in unsafe ice. It’s not worth the trip. Once repairs are complete, pray for the rest of the winter to bring precipitation to help fill the lake.

We checked in with Topaz Lake today. Things have been pretty slow on the lake, with shoreline anglers doing okay with Powerbait and worms, with some boat traffic on the lake as well. There has been some talk of a 9 & 10 lb. Rainbow being caught but no photos of them yet.

Ice covering the WMA reservoirs has thawed across the reservoirs. Anglers may need to break through ice in shallow areas for fishing access or to launch their vessels. Trout are hitting on olive emerger flies, Rooster Tails, and worms. Cold water temperatures are keeping bass action on the extremely slow side, even on warm afternoons.

Ice fishing has been good over the past few weeks, but sunny days and warming temperatures will soon start thinning the ice. Striped bass are taking a variety of glide baits, swimbaits and anchovies thrown by shore anglers. A 17-pound striper was caught using anchovies below Casino Row. Anglers are catching stocked rainbow trout all along the river. Green and orange PowerBait, spinners and night crawlers are catching the fish.
