Boaters Are Catching Large Stripers

Willow Beach boaters are catching large stripers about a mile downstream from the marina. One lucky angler caught a 32-pound striper while trolling a swimbait. High winds have kept many anglers off the lake. Reports of black bass action are coming in from the northwest area of the Boulder Basin. Largemouth are showing a preference for chrome crankbaits and smallmouth are hitting walking baits. Stripers are averaging 1-3 pounds, with anchovies being the bait of choice. I haven't heard much form up on Lake Mohave as of yet but our weather is just starting to let anglers and boaters out on the lake. The ones that have been getting out are not reporting any hook ups as of yet. I have heard of a few boils of shad near the Marina and near the dam no anglers are getting any luck

Cold Creek Reservoir is now at minimum pool due to outlet structure repair being done by Kinross. There is very little water and it is covered in unsafe ice. It’s not worth the trip. Once repairs are complete, pray for the rest of the winter to bring precipitation to help fill the lake.

Hinkson Slough Opens This Weekend

Hinkson Slough in Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area opens this Saturday. It will be the only water open of the main four: these are drained and awaiting dredging; North Pond, Bass Pond and Crappie Pond. Have your NV fishing license!

There is some open water on the reservoirs and may provide some opportunity for trout fishing. Most nights are still pushing below freezing, so ice is still found along most shorelines. The ice is too thin to walk on. Where there is open water, a worm below a bobber or a nymph pattern can do the trick.

As of the weekend, the ice was still 6 to 8 inches thick. Trout in the 12- to 18-inch range are hitting PowerBait, night crawlers, and jigs. Anglers Are Reporting That Bigger Fish Are Taking Swimbaits

Colorado River - Laughlin

Stripers as large as 9 pounds are taking anchovies fished from the Colorado River shorelines. Anglers are reporting that bigger fish are taking swimbaits. Rainbow trout are showing a preference for green jigs and night crawlers. Black bass anglers are reporting an increase in activity with warmer daytime temperatures. A few smallies have been caught on green pumpkin worms and jerk baits.
