Largemouth Are Becoming More Active

Largemouth bass are becoming more active near structure and vegetation in the Las Vegas Bay area. Anglers are recommending soft plastics in pearl and green pumpkin fished slowly with a finesse presentation. In the Boulder Basin, stripers are taking anchovies from shore anglers in the late afternoon and evening hours. Boaters are having luck when using live bait in 30 to 40 feet of water.

Ice Has Been Receding With Recent Warmer Temps

The ice is receding as the weather starts to get slightly warmer. The edges of the ice are becoming soft, unstable and there is now open water around most edges. Rainbows Are Most Active in Morning & Afternoons

Swimbaits and Glide Baits in trout patterns are producing striped bass catches along the river. One lucky angler landed a 17-pound striper below Big Bend State Recreation Area using his favorite swimbait. Rainbow trout are most active in the mornings and afternoons. The fish are looking for pink and orange PowerBait, mice tails or worms fished in the shadows.

Trout swimbaits are the ticket for large stripers near Willow Beach, but anchovies and some shad lures are producing nice catches as well. Black Bass Action is Picking Up

Striped bass are taking live shad and anchovies from anglers at the Hemenway fishing pier. Anglers fishing in the early mornings and overnight are averaging more fish that daytime anglers. Boaters are having luck when trolling shad lures in about 40 feet of water. Black bass action is picking up around Callville Bay. The fish are coming up for bone-colored swimbaits and walking baits.

Big Snows!

Kayak Anglers are Reporting Larger Stripers

Red and yellow spinners are producing limits of rainbow trout along the Colorado River. When the bite slows down on spinners, anglers are switching to a worm and PowerBait combination. Striped bass in the 1- to 3-pound range are taking anchovies along Casino Row. Kayak anglers are reporting larger stripers chasing trout swimbaits just south of Big Bend State Recreation Area.
