Kirch Wildlife Management Area

Due to colder temperatures and winter storms systems, few people have been seen on the management area and fishing pressure has been very light. The reservoirs remain ice free, which is mostly due to the high wind conditions and not the temperatures.

Fishing remains good at the lake despite storm systems moving through the area over the past week. Three anglers who braved the elements did well for both rainbow trout and tiger trout while throwing Lil Jake lures and night crawlers. Cooler weather changes fishing habits so you may need to change your approach. Fishing from shore has proven successful for stripers. Look for fish holding in holes near structure. Be wary of low water conditions.

Upper Mohave Update

The upper Mohave has offered the best fishing recently. Some of the best action has come in the coves with top-water baits. According to one report, there was a 40-pound fish pulled in sometime last week.

Striper Action

Striper action has been described as being okay during the morning and evening hours. Windy conditions have made boating and fishing difficult for much of the past week. Live shad and swimbaits are catching most of the fish, some pushing five to six pounds. Look for shad and stripers both in deep water.

It’s cold in the high desert of Western Nevada this November. Feels like the Pyramid Lake everyone remembers. Reno got almost a foot of snow yesterday and the drive out to the lake was a bit sketch. They probably haven’t seen that much snow-that low since ’11. Low pressures keep rolling in from AK, and that’s what you want for good fly fishing at Pyramid Lake.

Big cutts biting at Pyramid

Wind has been dying off in the afternoon. Big fish of the week was a 19.12 pound cutt caught from a boat. Seventeen cutts larger than 10 pounds were weighed in last week, most were via boat or tube. Good Fishing for Lake Trout
