Lake has risen 8 inches since the weekend but another 2 feet is needed to launch boats. Marina needs more water to put in small boats. Very few shoreline anglers trying and those few are not having success. Topaz Landing (775) 266-3550

The ice remains good across the reservoir and anglers have been taking rainbow, brown and tiger trout, all in the 10- to 13-inch range. Night crawlers remain the bait of choice this week. The campground is open.

The reservoir is nearly ice free. The upper section is covered with thin ice. Rainbows are taking night crawlers and small spinners. Fishing off the dam has been the best.

The weather has warmed considerably since last week and the trout action is improving along with it. The area near Big Bend State Park has been popular with anglers catching many trout in the two- to four-pound range. Night crawlers have been the bait of choice. With the cessation of the trout stocking program, anglers have been practicing catch and release to prolong their resource.??As

While the stripers have been relatively elusive, one lucky angler did manage to reel in a fish weighing 23 pounds near mile marker 52 at Willow Beach.?? Catfish have been fairly active at night in the backs of coves. Anchovies are the most popular bait. As the weather warms, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and the various species of sunfish are becoming more active as well.

Anglers have had varied results at the local ponds despite recent trout plants. Floyd Lamb Park and Mesquite pond are due to be planted this week. The remaining ponds are on the schedule for next week, depending on weather conditions in northern Nevada where the fish originate.

Fishing, or more specifically catching, has been hit or miss on the lake lately.??Striped bass seem to be scattered throughout the lake as those with fish finders are not identifying many schools.??Those stripers that are being caught look healthy. Rumors are that the striped bass have moved further south in the lake.??There are reports of stripers taking anchovies or jumping minnows, most around three pounds, just south of Cottonwood Cove.??Catfish are biting on anchovies or hot dogs in the backs of coves.??

Rainbow trout plants took place this past week at Floyd Lamb, Lorenzi, Sunset, and Boulder City ponds. The fish usually take powerbait, nightcrawlers or small lures. Using smaller hooks, such as size 10 or 12 usually produce more success.

It has been trying times out on the lake with only light fishing action.?? Anglers have had a difficult time netting shad, so striper fishermen have been using anchovies as a substitute.
